56 gallon fuel tank

Hopefully this isn't old news...but Transfer Flow has just released a 56 gallon replacement tank for the third gen long beds.... $862.

Might help to get those 600's a little further between stations, all it takes is money!

I want that 98Gal in bed tank. That will get me almost 2200 miles on a fill up. OK, OK, and broke too.....

Diesel Fuel averages around 7.1 lb per gallon (US)

56 X 7.1 = 397.6 pounds.
PLUS the 248.5 pounds for the 35 gallons in the stock tank.

I think the rule of thumb is you lose a 1/2 MPG for every 100 lbs of excess weight.

I think I'll just fill up more often.............

Maybe in a Honda Civic!!!.... if I lost 6 mpg because I put 1200 lbs in the back of my dually.... I'd leave the keys on the front seat and call the bank to come get her!!!

I just put 2200 lbs of readymix in the back & went on a 600 trip to try and break her in a little before pulling my 5th wheel...She got better mileage than the previous tank, running empty!

On the other hand.... if your driveing a f**d or a cheby!

Shovelhead.....
I think it's only about 149.1 pounds heavier....he mentions a replacement tank, not an additional tank. It would be worth the .75 mpg difference for some, especially if they drove the trucks alot, but $862 is a bit too much for me. I'll be installing a vent kit from TDR's very own "Spooled Up" soon and it gives all of the 3rd gen guys up to 40 or so gallons and 800+ miles cruising range, plus much quicker fill-ups and top-offs.

You didn't read that correctly, the 56 Gal tank replaces the stock tank, thus you will not be adding in that 248.5lbs of weight of that tankof fuel

IMO ther is a real advantage to this type of tank. If you are towing then you only have to fill up once a day and thenyou can do it when you want to and not when you have too, that alone can save you money by not paying that outragous price because you didn't have enough fuel to make it thru the mountian pass or to the next real city and being stuck at Big Jims outragous fuel prices gas station

I hope they hurry up and get one for thaose of us with Short Beds.

I think the previous post about wanting a "98 gallon in-the-bed tank"... probably threw a little confusion into the works!

None the less, the "1/2 mpg for every 100 lbs" is either a typo or possibly could apply to a 35 mpg lightweight econo type car....

(Otherwise I'd be operating at 0 mpg... can't see how that would quite work, couldn't even back out of my driveway! )

Defdog2... who learns something new everyday! (still waiting to hear the final results of the "100hp/+4mpg" injector install!)

I have the stock tank plus a 51 gal aux tank in the bed. My MPG is unchanged whatsoever, full or empty. I'm not sure where you got your 'rule of thumb' but I don't believe it to be accurate at all for our trucks. Certainly a convenient way for you to feel good about not having an aux tank though

Too bad that transferflow replacement tank is only for long beds, I'd love to swap out for even more capacity. I would have gotten the 90 gal aux tank in the bed but wouldn't have been able to fit my ATV in the bed otherwise
