48re & pacbrake prxb
48re & pacbrake prxb
A year or so ago Pacbrake didn't recommend using the prxb on a 05 or earlier auto tranny. Now they say with the new controller & trans lock there's no risk of tranny problems. SO ? is has anyone installed a prxb on 05 or earlier 48re tranny? This ? pertains to the auto crowd no hand shaker comments please.
I've had the PXRB on my '05 (w/48RE) for 25Kmi with absolutely no problems at all. I almost always have the camper on and I tow a tandem axle car hauler too, so the exhaust brake & tranny both get a good workout. I can't imagine descending the grades I go down without having an exhaust brake.

I've had my PRXB on since Dec.07, coming up on 2 years, no problems with it at all. Pacbrakes transmission controller works great, it has an LED in the end of the on/off switch that changes color depending on the conditions. When the LED is red, the compressor is charging the air tank, when the system is ready to activate the exhaust brake (torque converter in lock up) the LED changes to Green and once the brake applies the LED changes to orange. Pacbrake now has a bracket to mount the LED switch on the gear lever for automatics like the one they have for manual transmissions, no drilling a hole in your dash for the switch. Lastly, my transmission is stock, never been touched, I am about to do a filter change, band adjustment and to add a deep trans pan.
