2nd Gen Sound?
2nd Gen Sound?
Hey Guys-
I have been reading on here for a while and just want to say that this website is excellent. I don't actually own a 3rd gen truck just a 2001 going on 175,000. I have the muffler eleminator kit and silencer ring MIA along with the bhaf. My question is, my buddy just got a 2004.5 and he loves the way my truck sounds, so has anyone found an exhaust that sounds somewhat like a 2nd gen straight piped or with the muffler gone like mine.
-Thanks L.T.

Ya! Straight pipe it! If you like SP it sounds great, just like a 2nd gen. Personally I think it's too loud so I left my cat on and dumped the muffler. I love the way it sounds and have no other plans for messing with my exhaust other than blowing lots of black smoke through it......
this is only my opinion, which aint worth much but here goes...
if you have a common rail truck, kiss the 2nd gen sound goodbye...The common rail's injection events are different from the VP44 injection events and the exhaust notes are different. Why does an injection event change the exhaust note? I have no clue, but the 3rd gen only sounds good striaght piped on take off, then it becomes Raspy...This is how my dads was, but that thing sounded great when pulling a load, which it always was when my dad was using it....

Sorry, but you aren't gonna sound like a 2nd gen....I have a friend with a 3rd gen 600 and both are 4 inch straight piped....Mine's louder and meaner....but I honestly like the inside "no noise" of the 3rd gen. You still get a great sound from a straight 3rd though....just less engine noise!
