Question 2005 lift pump questions

I'm considering a swap to the in-tank type pump that the 2005 models now use on my 2003. I'm familiar with in-tank setups on gas EFI vehicles and I much prefer them to external pumps but I don't know what the differences are with a diesel in-tank pump.

- What fuel pressures are people seeing on the 2005's with stock pumps? Bombed or not?
- Is the in-tank pump a special design to deal with the diesel? In other words, are there other options for bigger in-tank diesel pumps?
- Any idea what the conversion kit costs from Dodge?

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Dodge part numbers 5175540aa for the 35 gal tank and 5175539aa for the 34 gallon tank. Either way should only cost you about $310.00. Everthing is in the kit and it does not appear to be all that difficult to do. Fuel delivery does not seem to be a problem wether your bombed or not as there are plenty of guys on this forum that have 04.5/05 trucks that are bombed and I have not seen anything about fuel delivery problems.

Just do what I did.. wait for the LP to go out, then have the dealer do the update under warranty Oh wait.. maybe you can't.. depending on how many miles you got on yours.

It's a higher volume lower pressure pump than the previous ones. It runs around 7 - 8 psi where the old ones ran at about 12 - 13 psi

Krock,

Do you maintain pressure with the TST going full tilt?

With the hammer down on 3x3 & EZ on level 2, she drops to about 5 psi. I need a fass ............ and a clutch & a better turbo if I were to crank it much higher than 4x4 on the TST

I am, no expert on this subject but here goes. After I installed my quad race box,I threw two codes( 0192 fuel rail pressure sensor low and 0237 turbocharger boost pressure sensor low, while towing my trailer in the 60 hp position.I thought I had a loose connection on my quad box, all connections were good on the box. After a trip to my mod friendly dealer and local diesel shop I was only getting 10 psi fuel idleing according to there test equipment. The dealer told me he would install the in tank fuel pump for me under warrenty but said it would not make a difference,I would have the same problem while running the box even with the new in tank fuel pump.I did some checking with daves diesel located in angola Ind.He told me they were seeing the same problem with fueling issues with folks running the HP boxes.I went with the 150 gph Fass system with the larger pickup tube in the fuel tank.I have been running it now for about 2-3 months now,now issues yet or codes and holding a steady 12-13 psi WOT in the 100 hp position according to my autometer fuel gauge.coobie

Go with the FASS then you don't have to deal with lower fuel tank install and is a fuel pusher all day long. FASS pump make stock ones look like they belong on a lawn mower! 15-18 psi all day long!
Easy install too!

My 04 lift pump is putting out about 7-7.5psi at idle and 6psi or so at cruise. I think that's pretty typical of the first style 3rd gen lift pumps. I think some of the numbers quoted above may be a little high..

I've thought about the FASS idea but I just don't like external fuel pumps. I have had bad experiences with external fuel pumps on gassers and the fact that the lift pumps die on these diesels seems to support that. FASS is a lot more than a fuel pump, however, but I'm not convinced of it's benefits. But there's no doubt, it supplies the fuel!
