2004 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L fluidamper HELP

HELLO ALL , I’m new to the site but I recently ran into a brick wall. I put on a fluidamper on my 04-5.9L , (hope I spelled it right lol ) . I’m not sure what I did wrong since this is my 5 harmonic balancer I’ve done on other trucks but first of this type on my personal vehicle . So it seems it was gonna be a R&R but it’s turned out to be a nightmare . I removed all the stock parts off the crank shaft where dowel pin is located . An put on my damper with The TDC on the north side of the dowel pin . Fluidamper said I had to be 180 degrees off the dowel pin . Truck never started back again . It throws no codes just a bunch of white smoke at exhaust . Was I suppose to leave some of the stock components an then sleeve in the damper straight on ? Thank you for any help truck is sitting at shop now an would like to get my truck up and going .

Thank you John but I have gone over an over those worthless instructions. I’ve been on the phone with Ivan as well for a week now an still don’t have much result . They even told me I had the damper backwards an telling me TDC was 180 def from dowel an truck wouldn’t even run an throw crankshaft sensor code . The timing was worst . I’m dumb found

OK, let me take a wild stab at this. I will admit right off the bat that I do not know anything about this problem, but ...

You said that you removed a bunch of stock stuff. Isn't there a timing (tone) ring right behind the damper? Did you put that back? If so, could it be installed backwards?

That’s where I’m at I’m not sure if I was suppose to . I figured that ring was married to the fluidamper so I threw it away . 😂 like allows I’m so anti hoarding lol . I’m hoping someone can help me . The shop is been real helpful but there kind of in limbo since he has never installed a fluidamper

Again, I am no expert, but I am pretty sure that without that ring the engine will never even try to start.

Next time never throw anything away until you are positive that you will never again use what you removed.

Let us know the eventual fix.

Hope that you did not also remove and throw away the sensor for this ring.

If you can borrow a tone ring from another truck, over lay it on the fluiddamper to make sure the locating pins and tone teeth line up right, also make sure the sensor is close enough to the tone ring to read it properly, it should basically have no gap.

Well , the shop tried a stock damper an truck turned on. He did align it to the fluidamper an he said it was a tooth off . I’m not sure what to do now , diesel power direct said they won’t be giving me a refund since I installed the part . So now to contact fluidamper an see what route to take .

Well thought I would give my update an what a journey . The biggest nightmare has been living in a small town an having limited resources ( diesel mechanics) in town . I actually started looking for a diesel specialist in Vegas an Diesel Specialist out of Vegas was actually super super good to me without taking a penny of my money for his knowledge . First he gave me a bunch of info what are the high possibilities then he said " Just give me the shops number I'll give him a call an tell him where to start to check all the returns . So he actually called the guy Wednesday an on Friday the mechanic called an just like that all of a sudden he had answer's thanks to the shop in vegas !!!!! So it turned out injector 1 & 4 are done with and returning fuel . So now to order injectors . Any suggestions or guys on this forum with a retail store ??

I hope I didn't cause a headache to any members , I just hope that all my symptoms on my 5.9L can help somone else in the long run an not get caught with his pants down like I did . An you might find yourself with a very small option for a diesel mechanic in your town . Have thought about doing it myself , been watching youtube videos an looks do able . Me personally am gonna let the shop do it . So thanks to anyone that gave me input an hope this helps someone else . Will come back with final results after all injectors get switched out .
