06 Cummins vs 03 7.3 Powerstroke

A buddy of mine is buying a 2 wheel drive crew cab Ford F-250 with the 7.3 powerstroke this morning. He has been telling me how strong the 7.3 is and it will wax a 325/610 Cummins. I am pretty sure the 2003 7.3 had 250hp/505tq. He keeps reminding me about a certain magazine article a couple of years ago about how the 7.3 laid down 280hp/570tq to the rear wheels how is that possible? He also said the 7.3 had a much broader torque curve and would walk all over the Cummins when towing a heavy load. What do you guys think?

two very good freinds of mine have '02 7.3 strokes ... the wifes '06 destroyed one ... climbing hills in 6th and running from about 20-100 ...

and i saw the other last week and he related the following story ...

"we were on I-79 north on that long hill before you get to 19 ... my brothers '06 had a 38' (i think) fifth wheel loaded down with two families worth of camping stuff, i (7.3) had our small toyhauler with our atv behind me ... i told my brother to move that dodge junk out of the way and i'd just meet him at the top of the hill ...

he walked away from me ??????

i couldn't believe it ... i told him that i had something in my eye and couldn't get around him ... i sure did, it was a tear!!"

he then asked me if i would "install one of those boxes that'll give me smoke and let me pass him next time"

can't wait until i see his brother and let him in on the little secret ... can't have no strokes passing no cummins'

I had a 2000 7.3 which is the same and it had no where near the power of my Cummins. I have a buddy that has a 2002 7.3 with a Superchip and I could smoke him even when I was stock. He later stacked a Edge/Attitude with the Superchip after I modded mine and I leave him sitting like he is stuck in reverse.

Talking

I,ve had a 7,3 powerstroke for 3 years .
I have to say it never let me down, started always when it was freezing.
(my cummins not )
I had a 5inch exhaust,hypermax 95 hp chip,performance intake.
It was pretty fast ,and accelerated fast.
Now a half year ago I bought my ,03 SO dodge, with 250 hp stock ,the Ford was way faster than my new Dodge,my wife drove the Ford and let me see the tailgate all the time.
I ordered a predator ,and a perf intake ,and loaded the extreme into the ECM
Now again my wife in the Ford ,and me in the Dodge .
The Ford was no match for the Dodge anymore,I was miles away from the Ford.

my 02 7.3...exhaust, intake,TS chip w/fuel 7 ran 15.9(although the 60 foot time was alot better then my dodge) My dodge with exhaust, drop in filter and bullydog ran 14.6..no experience on stock to stock, but the 7.3 stock was a turd compared to my 06.

Think? He's a Ford guy, so of course the 7.3 is better, duh.

Rest, medicine, and maybe a bit of brain surgery could fix him though. That and seeing your tailgate pass him like an F-16.

Ford

Yeah, you can make a Ford fairly fast. It takes about a million dollars to get you in the 12's. Even then you blow the the dang powdered metal rods out the side of the block. Believe me, I can show you the huge oil stain on Old Petersburg Rd. Any wannabe that puts a box on an 01 or newer 7.3 is asking for a disaster to happen. It is a must to change the rods out to forged like they had prior to 01 models or billet (for a million dollars).

THE ONLY THING THAT RUNS GOOD ON A FORD POWERSTROKE IS THE OWNERS MOUTH... Look at the DHRA trucks and 90% of the trucks are Cummins...

I'm wondering where he got an 03 7.3? 2002 was the last year for the 7.3 liter. 03 started the "sick.0"

I think in '03, either motor was an option. I know for one year you could get either.

Not all 01's had PMR rods, also a box wont hurt the rods, it seems like they let go somewhere after 400HP, a chips not going to get them their. The 7.3's need alot of expensive mods to get into the 12's, but all diesels are expensive to get in the 12's. You could get an 03 7.3, my brother purchased one before he got his 6.0. Id post a picture but dont think i have any good ones.

in the begining of 03 you could get the 7.3 not even half way through the year they came out with the 6 liter
