04 fuel tank overflows at top of tank
I have recently installed a RDS 60 gal fuel tank in the bed of my 2004.5 truck, it has a gravity feed to the trucks filler hose. When the valve is left open for fuel to drain into the main tank it comes out in the area of the tank fuel pump at the top of the tank. The dealer say's they can't warranty the main tank due to alterations of the fuel system. I will be calling RDS on Monday to see if they have had similar problems. I think the problem may be the O ring at the tank fuel pump ( it probably was not put in correct from the factory) "Question" does the tank have to be pulled to replace the O ring?? If it does it is time to go to war with the dealer, or find a new dealer.
There were some posts about a vent nipple on top of the tank that is used in gas trucks that is not plugged off... The other posts this was letting debis in the tank.. Could be that you have the same thing and it is just acting as an overflow.

Read a post on another forum tonight and it mentioned there was a vent on the front of the tank as well as the rear. I haven't pulled my tank so I don't know for a fact. Guy was saying that he has put short pieces of tubing and fuel filters on them to keep debris out.
There is fittings on the back top of the tank but I left mine plugged. I have the 3/16" nipple beside the filler cap open and angled down to prevent rain and trash from getting into it.

You got "gas engine nipples" on the top of your tank. Samer thing happened to my bro's. A short length of 1/4" fuel line and you are fixed. Just shove it over each barb...linking the two white unused fitting together.
I talked to RDS and the Tech. said I am the first one to have this problem with a Dodge. He said if I find a fix to let him know in case he gets a similar call in the future. (My luck) I think that the O ring on top of the tank at the fuel pump is the problem and was not installed correctly from the factory. Guess I will have to check that first or just turn on the bed tank when the main tank is close to empty.
