04 dodge cummins hard start
We have a 04 dodge 2500 cummins. We need to crank if quite a while before it starts. In cool weather needs to be plugged in before it will start. Even when the engine is warm it's cranks awhile before it fires up. Once it's running it runs smooth, no problems. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

More than likely leaky injectors. If you do a search here you will find this problem cropping up a lot.

Mine is doing the same. With 250k miles (on mine) I've come to the conclusion that my injectors are worn. If you can't build enough pressure during start cranking, the injectors don't "fire" or "pop". That is why it is cranking so long.

I don't know if it will help but maybe turning the key to "on" a few seconds before cranking to let the transfer pump get the pressure up. Craig
