'03's and programmers
I've read that the 03's do not respond well to some programmers (the Triple Dog in particular).
Does anyone know why this would be the case? It seems to me that if the programmer is "re-programming" the ECM that it wouldn't matter what the model year.
I have an 03 with an SO and was hoping that something like the Smarty Jr would be just ticket. Anybody have any specific experience with the Jr and an 03?

Happy with my Junior on my 03 HO. Running it in the 70 hp Tow setting. Running stock exhaust at the moment and doesn't smoke at all.
The power is mostly low end but it runs good on top too. The EGTs are very low. I'm running around 5000 ft elevation with Scotty III intake and it takes being wide open for a long time to get to 1000 degrees. Don't think I've seen anything over that, but haven't towed anything yet. I wide open run to 70 or so only puts you in the 900-950 range.
I'm running an adjustble boost elbow and the boost is around 28-30 lbs which is close to the max from what I've read.
That being said, as soon as I install a new converter I will be going to the Smarty senior.
I've read the TST and Predator work well on the 03 and early 04s. I've also heard good things about PPE.
Before the Smarty came out, everyone said the TST was the hot ticket.

The problem with the Smarty on the 03-04 trucks, is the torque management system built into the stock programming. To get rid of it, you have to run the new race program. Predator can't get rid of it, even though they said they would do what you want..... The triple dog can shut off TM with entering a code. The problem is that it doesn't make much hp on a stock truck. It responds to injectors pretty well though.
If you are looking for good clean power, the Smarty is the way to go. Another way around the TM issue is the BD RAD box.

I ran the Tripple Dog/Dr.Performance stack and layed down 390hp with my SO.
The 03's respond well to programmers/boxes but we just don't get all those crazy HP programs. For instance the Crazy Larry for the BDTD.

On my 03 the TST/Smarty stack is awesome! My truck is an HO also. I lent a friend my Smarty on Sat and he promised to bring it back on Sun but he didn't. So I had to drive about 400 miles without my Smarty today and it sucked! The truck runs great don't get me wrong but the Smarty just adds so much to the bottom end. If I were going to have 1 power adder it would be the Smarty.
Good luck,

My sig doesn't show it at the moment but I had a TST on the truck. The number 5 piston got scored and I got a new short block under warranty (don't think the scoring and box were related).
I'm getting lazy in my old age and don't really feel like wiring the TST back up. The programmer approach seems so much easier and cleaner plus since I have an SO I was thinking the programmer would actually give me higher gains since it's overriding stock programming. Also, the TST seemed to "hit hard" above about 1800-1900 rpm. I was thinking maybe that's because it was on an SO?? Don't have any fact's to back that up. The boost would just instantly jump to 35 psi and then come back down.
Still on the fence out Smarty Jr, Sr, or stick with my TST.
So do I have to get the Smarty SR to override the stock torque management programming? Or will the JR accomplish that?

The race program is only available on the Smarty Sr.
contact Diablo and have them send it to you. You got to buy a couple things from Radio Shack or somewhere like that to download it from your computer to your Predator. Fairly easy.
Smarty..........OH YEAH
I have run 3 different programmers (Bully Dog, DiabloSport, and Smarty Sr.).
Smarty is by far the most powerful on my truck. It is well worth the money.
