you guy's are scarin me
 

i'm looking at a couple of trucks.one is an 07 2500 4x with 5.9 in it 32,000 miles and the other is the one i really like is an 07 with the 6.7l it's a 4x 3500 with only 19k and a clean carfax.but,all the stuff i'm reading on the 6.7 is negative.should i avoid the 6.7l ?

I just went from a SWEET '06 to a new '08. I was REALLY paranoid about doing it due to all the neg's regarding MPG and CEL's & other crap. BUT, as you know I'm sure, bad news travels faster than Taco Casa thru my bowels!!! One good customer will tell one friend. One bad customer will tell 10! Not too many people will get on ANY forum just to say"My - is perfect! I love my- because it does EXACTLY what I bought it for!!!" SO far I'm happy except for the fact they violated a federal rule & sold me a truck that hasn't had a federal recall fixed yet. Othe rthan that I'm as happy as a pig in s---!

Count the individuals that are griping, look at how they "operate" their vechicles, then compare those numbers to the about 1 million trucks that have the 6.7 Cummins motors and decide yourself if the vocal minority are sending the correct messages. [laugh]

I'm plenty happy with my 07. Got it with 14k on it and a P2262 (or 2292) stored in the ECM. Not one CEL since. Didn't address it more than to clear it and get on about driving it. Now at 29500. Daily driven in city stop and go. Lower gears save equipment.

it is a lot cheaper to mod the 6.7 than the 5.9 for mpg gain and you can get higher mpg gain from the 6.7

I have a 07.5 6.7 with the 6 speed auto and the integrated exhaust brake - it is a great combination and I really like it.

However - We use the truck primarily to tow a 5th wheel to national parks and park the trailer a couple of weeks in one spot. Each of the last two summers I have needed to get the truck serviced for cels related to the emmision system. It appears that this is due to driving slowly within the parks boundaries. Read what it takes to have a successful "regeneration" for emmissions purposes and it is pretty hard to accomplish in or around most national parks.

Depending on what you want your truck to do the 6.7 could work fine without a hiccup.

If I were in the market for an automatic I would get the 6.7 with the 6 speed and live with the emmissions problems.

If I were in the market for a stick (6 speed), I would lean towards to the 5.9 because of the emmissions issues.

as soon as you remove the egr, cat and dpf all of those problems go away add the smarty jr and enjoy a 20%increase in mpg

Their is nothing wrong with the 6.7 itself...its the emissions that causes the problems. There is enough stuff out there to make to 6.7 a dream to drive.
You can spend as $300 or less to take off the EGR and Delete the DPF their is all sort of stuff on diesel forums to do this. Do some research and you'll gain at least 3-4 MPG by just ridding the system. If you like keep your old emissions crap like I did just in case you have to do emissions.
