Who else hates the new 6speed manual ?

I quess i must have been asleep a the wheel when i bought this 07 3500 drw i didnt think that trans would have made that much difference but with almost 4k miles my fuel mileage just plain sucks on a 500 mile trip the other day it got 12.5 my 04 doing the would average 16 plus but i believe its in the trans gearing. i just looking for some answers why would DC make such a change that effects fuel mileage in such a way if i wanted that kind of mileage i would have bought a ford!!!

Wish it was a seven speed. Guess I just need some taller tires.[duhhh]

ramtd02 01-19-2007 09:57 PM

either that or slow down....LOL.

I get 19-22 consistently with my hand shaker @ 65 mph. Summer LSD

With the smarty and 35's on WINTER ULSD, I am getting 21-22.

I get 750-850 miles/tank. And have seen as high as 890's.

My '07 MC 4x4 w/3.73's is averaging 17.3 with only 1100 miles on the clock. I've been driving between 60 and 70 mph.

Diesel Avenger 01-19-2007 11:31 PM

My 07 isn't doing that badly. Around 15-16.5 because I get after it a good bit.[roll] I have a 3500 4x4 DRW with the 3:73 rear. I am also running 2 cycle oil in the diesel. I am noticing that if you get above 2000 rpms regularly, the mpg drops like a rock. I try to stay around 65 anyway, so that helps.

Your truck isn't broken in at 4,000 miles. Most trucks don't settle into mileage until approximately 20,000 miles (or so I've been told).

Whats the difference between the old 6 speed and new 6 speed?

nelrod 01-20-2007 02:42 PM

I am opposite. I love the G-56. I do agree that it needs a 7th gear. However, when pulling with it, no slowing it down. Shifts like a car.

mikelr 01-20-2007 02:59 PM

I find that the shifting on my G56 is a bit notchy. It tends to crunch a bit on the 4-5 shift even with a slow row with full clutch depression. It's fine though if you double clutch it.
Anyone else experience this?
It may be great compared to the old NV's but I've never drove one of those.

Hounddog 01-20-2007 03:03 PM

How fast were you driving on that trip. My 03 got 13 or so at 70 plus with low miles( 3 or 4k ) on its first trip to a island off the S.C.coast.Now I get that towing 9 or 10k at 65/68 mph as a rule.

hauliday 01-20-2007 03:14 PM

most of it was 70 and some 75

G-56 mileage impressions.

I'm carrying a 2000# Northstar popup on my '07. Tires have been upgraded to 285 toyo's. My GPS is only showing a 2% difference on the odometer. My overhead w/800 miles is reading 15.8 combined. Not great but pretty good considering that I'm varying the throttle pressure and I've got at least 8,000 miles to go on break-in. I've driven three NV 5600's and this tranny is a dream to shift relative to those. What's up in the air is longevity. Time will tell. I'm heading to Carli Suspensions in a few weeks for a cure for the suspension which sucks bigtime with the camper. Darn near zero travel.:(

I just HAVE to ask here...HOW in the HECK did you pull nearly 26mpg avg with 1.) a higher revving 6spd and 2.) a truck that weighs 7000lbs+...I am just SUPER cursious, because the BEST tank I have gotten was about 650ish+/-...granted, I have a gallon less on a tank than you do but I also drive almost exclusively on the highway out here in San Diego to get to the base and usually travel around 65mph.
