Tire Size

Hey Guys, I'm looking to get new tires on my rig soon. Just wandering what everyone else is running. I have 285/75/17 now. I was wanting to go a little bigger if I could. I am not going to level it at this time, so there for the suspension is stock. But was wandering how much bigger I could go, and what tires are wearing best for everyone out there. Thanks for the input.

I'm looking to upgrade soon the tires as well. All stock suspension with 265/70 tires and was looking to go 285/70 or 295/70 on the stock wheels. Looking at the Nitto Trail Grappler-MT's. They seem to be spendy though... I want to have more size and better design for going off the pavement without too much sacrifice in MPG and street manners.

Im running 37x12.50R17 Yokohama Geolander A/T-S tires on a level lift. There are those running 37's on a completely stock suspension.

Post a pic please. I'm currently trying to decide between 35's and 37's on my '07. Not sure 37's will fit. Any rub? Do you have mud flaps?

I am running 315/70/17(Firestone Destination MT), awesome tire!!, on the Hummer wheels with 3:42 gears. Yes they do rub at full turn. They also will drop fuel mileage. I have not lifted my truck at this time. If you can stand the rubbing, go for it, they look great!

Thanks BroncoHound for the pics. I don't think 37's and my mud flaps will place nice together.

Sidesteppers, the thing is that my mileage will likely go up. I'm running 2300 to 2400 rpm at 65-70 mph. I have a G56 with 3:73's, its so geared low overall. My reason to go taller is to drop RPM.

Does'nt that big a tire kill your MPG and towing?

You're right, I doubt mudflaps would play nice with 37's. There isn't much room at all when the wheels are turned.

It's a diesel, partner. Sure, I probably get .5-1mpg less overall than I would with stock tires, but bobtail on the highway I still see 20.5mpg at 65mph and 18.5mpg at 75mph. With my gearing and tire size, I'd have to be doing 85mph to hit 2000rpm.

As for towing, i've only towed 10K lbs. a couple of times for a few hundred miles each since I've put the 37's on. However, with my previous 325/70R17 Nitto Terra Grapplers (roughly 35/13.00R17), I hauled 20K lbs. several times and the pickup never missed a beat. Now, with my tall gearing and tall tires, I have to be more cognizant of the strain and heat buildup placed on the transmission and rear differential when loaded heavy, so I change my transmission fluid every 50K miles as opposed to 75K-100K miles, and am also running a heavier weight gear oil (75w140) in the rear diff. Eventually, I will install a trans cool and a trans temp gauge as well as a rear diff temp gauge to have real-time monitoring but, for now, I feel comfortable with the setup and how it performs. That's why I bought a diesel pickup, after all; for it's ability to do just about EVERYTHING I need a vehicle to do. A jack of all trades type vehicle.

Thank you sir. I'll let Kortney know of the compliment to her this afternoon. I'm sure she'll blush.
