Oil pan gasket change
Hello everyone,
The oil pan gasket on my truck (2007.5 6.7) is leaking. Not bad yet but it does make a small mess... I was quoted 5 hours of labour to change it, does that sound right? It doesn't look like too big a job to do, but then again I've never done one so I don't know what's all involved... Has anyone done this before and how much fun is it?
Thanks!

don't tighten them too much. Don't wanna bend the flanged edge of the pan.
also, If these are like doing a 5.9 pan gasket, the pan wont come out unless the trans is removed.
However, I have seen some people, unbolt engine mounts and lift engine a few inches up and fish the pan out that way. There may be other tricks.

Had the same issue with the head bolts when I went to pull them. The bolts in the middle of the head were super easy to loosen but the rest were very tight.

I had DFC (they're diesel engine rebuilders) in Edmonton replace my 5.9 engine. They told me they never use oil pan gaskets in their rebuilds. Unreliable...they get old, break down and leak. Instead, they use silicone.
Wonder if the pan could be dropped enough to clean up the lip and silicone it?

Good idea Edmonton! My leak has sort of subsided, I cleaned the entire engine and so far it hasn't come back... I did put a wrench on all the bolts and they were all tight... I did use some silicone-like stuff called "The Right stuff" on my 977H when I did some engine work on it over Christmas as the pan gasket is no longer available, that stuff has held up great so far...

I 2nd dropping the pan on the crossmember, cleaning it up and running a bead of high temp silicon gasket maker in lieu of all the work required to get a new gasket around the oil pickup.
