New and have a few questions

Just bought an 07 5.9l. It is my first diesel and so far have about 3500 miles on it. I already took out the silencer ring. My first planned mod is the gauge kit from diesel manor. Everything seems to work well on my truck but i do have a few questions.
1. Does anyone else with an 07 auto tranny have the problem of when putting it in 1st gear the 1 does not box on the dash. When you put it in any other gear that gear is boxed. It works in 1st but im not sure if it is locking into gear since its like it isnt in gear according to the dash.
2. My next question is if anyone has any tips on drilling the pyro probe hole in the manifold. I am going to start small and work my way up to the final bit, then use a vacuum to get any left over debris.
3. My dealership keeps sending me letters about how i should get an oil change now, but my factory book says at the earliest 7500 miles. I use that because i do alot of stop and go and sometimes the engine never really gets warmed up all the way.

thanks and i like this site its really helpfull.
Jim

when i did my pyro, i duct taped over most of the tail pipe. center punched the hole location. got the drill, tap, goggles, and leather gloves ready. started the truck and started to make chips. when you break through the exhaust will clear the hole since it is restricted at the tailpipe. cover the tap with some grease(to catch more chips) and continue. the goggles are obvious, the gloves are when tapping, that escaping exhaust can get darned hot! 22K miles later i swapped out the factory turbo and no evidence that anything went through it.
good luck

Welcome to the DTR! The greatest site on the net for Cummins info.
Now fill in your signature and location.
You can do as dodgezilla04 said or i just coated my drill bit in lots of grease to hold the shavings, same with the tap.
If you are from MD you could come over tomorrow 2-10 as we are having another Chapter #33 wrenchin day, but i don't know where you are.

tranny indicator sounds like an adjustment.

I would see what other TSB's are out there, and get them all done same time.
search for P0514 - it's annoying.

do you have High Idle?

shop tapped Pyro for a buddy last week, laid a magnet on manifold VERY close to drill, pulled bit & cleaned it with magnet often,

stuck small magnet in hole ~5 times, cleaned it out.

worked fine.
