Need some OEM Turbo expertise
Need some OEM Turbo expertise
I changed my turbo not too long ago. I found a salvage yard take-off for a good price. It seems to me the EGT runs a bit high when the truck is working, but not working it really hard. I figure this is something that could be important.
On the side of the turbo, there is an electronic box that has a gear going into some teeth of the turbo. The teeth on the turbo open and close the "sleeve" on the exhaust.
'07 6.7 cab/chassis 94,xxx miles, no EGR stuff, smarty box running on 3.
Question is this. When that box gets put on, is there a set point that it should be clocked to, or should it be moved to wide open, then the electronic box put on?
and, if I take off the 4 bolts that hold this electronic box on, will coolant leak everywhere, of is this simply a dust seal with no fluid inside it?
What may be happening is that if I have it "clocked" wrong, the sleeve may not be opening all the way and letting enough air out, causing the EGT to go higher than it should be going.
Hope this isn't too vague. I have no pics. It is already back together.
thanks for you input.

There was another thread I was following where a guy was rebuilding his old VGT and there are certain positions that the stepper motor and gear have to be in with respect to the nozzle gear to disassemble properly and have it work right. I have to look and see where that was.
