Need Help

Have a 2007 3500 with 6.7 that has check engine light on at 100,000 miles. Went to a shop (not Dodge) and they scanned it and told me it had a P2262 code which was for turbo pressure not detected. They told me I needed to replace the turbo at a cost of around 5K. I have no smoke showing, engine runs smooth, only thing I've noticed is about a 2 mile per gallon drop in fuel economy in the last couple of months. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Do you have a boost gauge? If so, does it say that it is building boost?

wiltonbill 03-22-2017 11:21 AM

No I don't. I read a couple of posts on here in the last couple of days regarding how to build one but haven't done so at this point. Also read about cleaning the MAP sensor which I am going to try. Thanks for the response.

You might be able to clean the turbo as well.. Do you always drive with Exhaust Brake on and in Tow/Haul mode?

wiltonbill 03-22-2017 12:05 PM

No, I only use the exhaust brake and the tow/haul mode when I'm hauling hay or cattle. This is my daily driver but at 70, I don't go that many places. How would i go about cleaning the turbo? Thanks for the response.

It is recommended to drive with the EB and TH mode to keep the actuator in the turbo clean and moving to minimize build up that wrecks the turbo. There are some procedures for doing so, but it might be best to take it to a shop to clean or look into a new/rebuilt one.

And $5k is STEEP for that repair! Iirc a factory turbo is around $2600 so they're charging you $2400 for 4 hours labor and a few gaskets.

There are free cell phone apps like Torque app free that you can use to check boost and such. You only need to buy a Bluetooth obd adapter (around $15-20 on eBay) and link it to your phone.
It's alot cheaper than making a gauge and a great diagnostic tool too.

Thanks for the input. To old to understand what you said about Bluetooth and don't have a smartphone, can barely operate the stupidphone I have! Still trying to locate the MAP sensor on my engine so I can try to clean it or replace it.

P2262 9 times out of 10 is the turbocharger. Dodge dealers could perform a cleaning procedure where they drill a hole in the center section of the turbo and run cleaner through them. Don't honestly know if they still do this or not. We normally replace, as cleaning a HE351VE is a pain and have had mixed results in doing so over the years. Also, an active P2262 should disable the exhaust brake from working at all. And yes, $5000 is too steep... Hope some of this helps.

Thanks for the input. I will see if the exhaust brake is working later today. If it is functioning, could the problem be something other than the turbo? Do I have to remove the cowling on the top of the engine to locate the MAP sensor?

hoeslidiesel 03-23-2017 11:46 AM

Shouldn't have to. It's flat black sensor on the back of the intake horn.

Found it, I was looking on the drivers side of engine, located it on the top side of air cleaner housing. Took it off and it look pristine, metal is shiny with no soot, bummer! Is there any way to shut off the check engine light? I have to go for a smog check in the next 2 weeks and the light on would be a visual failure. Can't afford a turbo replacement at the moment.

xcc_rider 04-03-2017 12:57 PM

That's not it. It's on the backside of the intake manifold below the egr valve.

Chrysler recommends running a turbo test which perform a travel test of the actuator that controls the turbo boost pressure. Soot buildup is usually the cause for code p2262. When the test runs is will confirm turbo needs replacing or cleaning required. Best to have test run first. do not clear code until tests runs otherwise the test will not run without a stored code in computer.

Thanks for the information. I am still having a problem locating the Map sensor. I looked at several picture of Map sensors for 07 dodge cummins and they looked identical to the sensor I found on the top of the air cleaner housing. When I look at the drivers side of the engine, the only thing that looks similar is a sensor(?) located on top of the engine near the firewall. Is this it? Could you possibly send me a picture? Thanks!
