Increase Mileage 25%!!!

Put an air filter for a 5.9 in your 6.7 and run to the bank with your savings!

I did it 2 weeks ago and I have gone from 17.3 at the best to 21.2 on the highway hand calculated!

Pulling I have gone from 9.7 to 12.5 pulling trailers about 11k

It has the same surface area and fits perfect but is not near as thick, your engine can finally get the air it needs!

So the panels have the same dimension but thicker for the 6.7?

Sounds like a plan but what would worry me is there is probably a REASON for the thicker filter. Might have something to do with the emissions equipment etc.

I had a used filter here from my 07 5.9 but decided after I knew it fit the 6.7 air box to go get a new one from the dealer. I paid 21.00 for it. Now I have not logged very many miles but I did reset the overhead after a run I have used for logging some miles. The overhead is at 1.8 mpg better.

I leave on a trip on Sunday that will log right around 1900 miles empty on the highway and another 1900 loaded. I will be able to compare to my last trip with the GIANT air blocking, engine stopping factory filter I had in there. I will be back by Friday next week and will report my results.

There is a huge difference in the filters. I cannot see why it would not net better mileage. I will run it and also pull an oil sample next oil change.

As for warranty concerns...my warranty was void when I imported to Canada...just like 1st trucks'.

that's what I'm thinking.

I'll remove the airbox, rubberband a rag around where it attaches and run a tank and report back

I suggest you do it for all of us as your results might be ...well a bit disappointing. Similar to your comment. Try paper towel or one of your old socks instead.

I will pass on reporting my results here.

Thanks for the feedback.

Seems strange why they would put in a bigger/different filter if the older one works.

Be careful... lets hope the VGT does not collapse the media and make a meal out of your filter. That could ruin your day...

I'll be watching this one.

you forget I don't care what happens to my truck and it will be gone soon.

I would of course advise against this if you plan on keeping your truck

A filter that is nearly three times thicker is quite a brick in there.

Did anyone stop and think. Bigger filter = more surface area = reduced air flow rate per sq foot of filter media = less MPG. Don't believe so.

I think it is more like More filter media in the same small airbox= less area for air to go through!! I don't know if I would put a filter from an 07 in there but I am thinking of the dreaded K&N like I have had on all of my trucks

There are some specs printed right on the filter media for the 6.7. Its not a filter that is favorable for more/good air flow and my opinion is its overkill. I will leave it at that for the folks that want to hash it over. After years of designing and producing air intakes, all I can say is the factory filter is very restrictive and as long as I can filter to an acceptable level for myself I am happy with that. The 5.9 07 filter has all the same reinforcements that the 6.7 filter has.

This could turn into a thread that gets shut down because of all the opinions/options and input for all the different ideas on how to enjoy your truck.

To each his own. Hovisimo, send me a sock.

Scotty

p.s. Maybe the weight loss of the lighter filter is whats netting better economy.
Yeah thats it.
