I know about the additive study BUT.... (Lucas)

Hey there! First time poster here. I have a 2007 5.9 and a 2002 5.9 24V. I read about the Additve study from a few months ago and Lucas did not fare so well. However, after using all the top rated additives ( TCW3 and Opti Lube) the LUCAS by far has quieted my engine on both trucks, almost all clatter is gone, and my MPG is up with it as well. Know lots of guys who swear by it's use. Any idea HOW it could have done so poorly??? Should I trust my engine/results or the test?

Are you talking about the study that looked at the lubricating qualities of the additives? If so, what does that have to do with quieting the engine?

Maybe you are talking about a different study than I remember, one about combustion. What study?

oops, sorry, I just realized I posted in the wrong forum as well. I was talking about the lubricity study. I was getting some good clatter from the 07 under acceleration and the 02 is always loud. Just noticed after using the Lucas that it by far has quieted down both of them the most and I am seeing the greatest Mileage gains from using it. It really has made a difference in the 07, absolutely quiet now..

Roany,

Nice to have you around! Why not fill out your signature too?

I am having similar findings, the Lucas really is working good for me as well, but scored really low on the test!

I buy Bio20 and mix it to end up with B05!
Starting up @ morning, in my garage, nothing make the engine purr better than the Bio fuel.
B20 hurt my mileage....but B05 doesn't...and still lubricats beautifully, based on smoother running sound at idle.

I agree, I've never tried more than B5 because that's all I have access to but my truck seems to run great on it, better than regular ultra-low diesel.

I've run a couple of bottles of Lucas in my other trucks. It helps to clean them out definitely. I run Stanadyne all the time now and the truck works great.

If it works in your truck why worry about what one test showed and that test was done with fuel that you and I don't buy at the pump. I use Lucas and I've very happy with it as 2 cycle oil plays heck with my engine and I lost fuel mileage when I used it. In my 06 I don't think lack of Lube in the fuel is a problem like the 2 gen engines that have the VP 44 pump. IIRC the 2nd Gen VP 44 pump gets it's lube from diesel fuel and the newer pumps do not rely on diesel fuel to lube them. If you want the best lube for your fuel system and or a VP 44 pump then a mix of 2% or more Bio is better then any lube additive on the market at this time.

I don't get how that test came up with lower lubricity but I would like to see it re-done. Lucas makes my truck and Jetta run better.

Got a buddy that had a 03 2500 H.O.48re 2wd L.B. At 150k It started surgiing/dieing at idle at times. One of the tests for a bad Fuel Control Actuator(FCA) is adding diesel fuel additive that lubes, cleans etc.or couple of cans of ashless two stroke oil to the fuel.If it clears up and starts back with rough idle, hesitation and stalling at idle/off idle when nothing added its normally a bad FCA.It gets LUBED and stops sticking due to a rough/worn spot in the valve. My friend poured a NUMBER of products in his 03 and ALL but LUCAS made it run ok! Lucas changed nothing and he claims he used about 1/2 a normal size bottle of it.All the other additives during the month or 6 weeks he poured them in the running issue went away and came back if not used by the next two tanks. That says Lucas has lower LUBRICITY to me.

Yea who knows!!! I do know that these trucks seem to each be different! What works on one will not work on another! Same year model etc. WEIRD!
