Hope this may help someone (Codes P1011 and P0087)
 

Last Sunday, i was driving my truck up a moderate grade at about part throttle. Near the top, the truck began to fall off, started running very rough, and eventually died. When I got it started, the CEL light was on and it gave me codes of P0087 and P1011 (fuel pressure related). I finally was able to get it started and hobbled it to a fueling station where I put in about $10.00 worth of diesel fuel, since the truck was at 1/8 of a tank left. Once I started it again, it ran a little rough and then quickly began to act normally. I drove it home fine.

I did a search and I was not able to find a whole lot of talk about these particular codes (It seems alot more talk about the P0087 code by Dmax owners). Since it still has warranty, I took it to the service dept. After they looked at it they told me that it was the fuel transfer pump (in tank) that was failing and they replaced the part under warranty. Just a little FYI for anyone who encounters these codes and needs to start troubleshooting.

The truck was unloaded. It is a 2007 6.7.

P-0087-Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low

P-1011-Fuel Pump Delivery Pressure Too Low

My dad was a trucker and instilled in me that if you are driving up and down grades, you better have 1/2 a tank or better. Relying on the fuel pickup in the tank to follow the last 5 gallons as it sloshes from the front to back is asking for trouble. If I am doing mountain grades, I keep the needle in the middle or better.
