High pressure fuel relief valve actuated?

2008, 2500, 4X4. Check light came on and I had the codes read with the above result. I was going about 100mph when the light came on. What do I need to do about this? Thanks all for your thoughts.

100 mph?

First,if you're still going 100,

....slow down. [nonono]

yeah, well we sometimes drive pretty fast on these Texas back roads. Had to get back to the rig before the boss showed up[redface]. I still need an answer though.

is it running right? what code was popped? they are "supposed to reset" but not all the time do they. being an 08, if under 100k miles, it will be under warranty for a replacement.

jlambert 04-26-2011 03:27 PM

Yes it seems to be running o.k. Stopped @ parts store to get codes read and then back to rig have not driven since so do not know if it reset. I read somewhere else that once it pops it gets weaker and will pop again soon. I'm not sure of code number they just told me the description. I've been reading good things about Smarty maybe I should spring for one now.

they are not cheap. if you have a smarty are you running higher rail psi? if so, drop it back to default. increased rail psi for extended periods of time is hard on injectors. if it is running good now, you are fine for the time being. with it popped, it won't start as the rail psi won't be able to achieve 4500 psi or higher to start the truck.

if you end up getting a new one (rather than going to the dealer and having it replaced under warranty), then get the engine serial number off and get ahold of a cummins dealer. they are cheaper there than the dealer

Thank you cbrahs. No I don't have a Smarty now, truck is stock. I tow a 5th wheel for work about 50% of time. In west Texas where it is very flat, not many hills here (not much of anything here but oil rigs!). It's just that I'm reading that with a Smarty I can delete these egr things that cause problems. I've already had warranty work done on cracked egr housing or something like that. But even under warranty they charged me $700 for ccr, fuel filter conversion, fuel pump check due to extreme dust conditions out here. They also tried to sell me aftermarket fuel filter assy. Anyway thanks again for your help.
