Angry This Has Got To Be The....

Fuel filter setup ever in the history of the automobile!!!!!

It is absolutely ridiculous that I have to pour fuel all over my driveway just trying to do a simple filter change. So, now that I did it the way the directions said to, should I have drained the filter all the way down or is that not even possible? It said to drain about a half cup out of the water seperator and then remove the filter. Unfortunately the filter was still full to the very top and if you tilt it any, which you have to just to get it out of the truck, then fuel spills everywhere. I had read how fun this was so I kind of knew it was gonna happen but I thought I could figure a way to do it without making such a mess. I was wrong. This time anyways.....

So, who's working on a way to put a 5.9 fuel bowl setup on a 6.7????????

when i do mine i get a big zip lock baggie and put it over the filter before i start spinning it off. keeps the mess to a bare minimum. sorry about your luck.

I have added to longer drain hose so that it extends down to the drain pan. I open the drain **** and loosen the filter a turn or 2. Walk away until it's done draining. No more mess. then getting the foolish thing out of the engine bay is a bit&h.

It's just a really dumb setup. Thye first thing I plan to do is get a longer drain tube. That won't help with the mess coming from the top of the filter though. I will figure some way to do this without all the mess by the next time I have to do it...

Before hooking up your longer drain hose, loosen the fuel filter a few turns.....after opening the drain valve, unscrew the filter a little more and release the vacuum on the filter.

This will help get a better drain and a little less of a mess.

I just went with the longer drain hose option as well. No mess. I guess you could tape a ziploc to the bottom of the drain tube as well.

I did the same thing on mine. Cracked the drain and nothing. Unscrewed it a turn or two, then ! Fuel everywhere. More made it onto the rack and frame than did into the drain pan I had laid out. Next time more hose

I just use a wal-mart bag. i hang the loops from the bag on a couple of screws so it hangs open below the fuel filter. The fuel drains into the bag and i just let the old filter fall into the bag when it unscrews. Unhook the bag, pour the diesel onto any unwanted weeds (of course this is an exaggeration; i ALWAYS properly dispose of ALL hazmat every time), and throw away the bag and old filter. Keeps it pretty mess-free for me. Now once I get the coin set aside for an AirDog 150, things will be a bit easier...

No pics but it is in the same position as yours but the filter is 4 times the size, connects from the bottom, and attaches similarly to how an oil filter does.

Bronco, won't the diesel just eat right through that cheap plastic? Good idea too....

Im sure it would over time, but i just use it to keep from making a mess while im swapping them out. Diesel won't eat through the plastic so fast you can't get the job done. Just make sure the bag you are using doesn't have any holes in the bottom.

Maybe this will make you feel better. A friend of mine had a shop in Rifle Colorado change the fuel filter in his 1995 CTD yesterday. $90.00 with filter and labor

I have no clue why you bought a 6.7 to start with? you get on here and know everyone has problems with these trucks and buy one anyway. you should have kept a 5.9L you owned you know they are better trucks and they are easier to work on no emissions crap!

I had issues with the 07 5.9 too. Plus I just got tired of pressing that SB clutch in all the time.
My truck has no emissions equipment on it. I don't know what you are talking about!!

And once there is no emissions equipment on these trucks then your statment of
you should have kept a 5.9L you owned you know they are better trucks and they are easier to work on
is no longer true other than that stupid fuel filter. I will take my stock 68RE over any 48RE anyday. Of course, I can say that based on the FACT that I will not be BOMBing this truck so my stock 6-speed auto should hold up just fine.

When I went to put my new filter back on I had to take the tire and splash guard off of the fender to get it back on. I just could not get that filter to thread on right. Next time I'm just going to pull the tire and splash guard again, much easier to get at with that crap out of the way.
