That's exactly where I'm at on the money deal. I'm just taking it in the shorts on my F250.

Based on some of the things I read on this forum, do you guys think the 6.7 is simply experiencing electronic issues that can be fixed by flashes or are there inherent design flaws with their smog systems that will plague the motor for its lifetime? I don't expect anyone to be a fortune teller, but I find it hard to believe companies like Cummins are going to let DPFs and EGR systems be the demise of their consumer level diesels. Especially since the EPA isn't going to go anywhere.

And you guys touting the older 5.9s, I know, you're probably right just like the Ford guys who owned and recommended the 7.3s. But I really like the idea of the extra cubic inches, a six speed auto and the engine brake.

That is one of the funniest and poignant things I've ever read. What makes it funnier is I actually considered it!

But I'd rather have the package as a whole.

Thank you everyone for your informative and timely posts. You have really made me feel welcome here.

I just expected more of an explanation than someone telling me to keep my Ford on a Dodge forum. Your second post is more to the point, thank you.

Choices

Isn't it a great thing to have choices? The greatest part of that is competetive improvements by each maker, giving us consumers better products to choose from.

Flattman, I have owned 4 Dodge/Cummins 3500's so far, and have had good results with each, but I will say my 07 with the 6.7 & 6 sp auto is really the best one so far in my opinion. My son bought my first one, a '99 5-sp. manual, to haul farm equipment around with; my '03 was replaced by the dealer that forgot to put oil back in the crankcase and siezed the motor - it was a great truck up to that point; the '05 was it's replacement and was bought this past June by my son upgrading from his '99 (which his step-brother bought). I have spent a fair amount of this year with some hand disability preventing me from shifting the manual, so I had to get an auto is why I sold the '05 to get an '07. I had 2 neck discs that degenerated and pinched the nerves going to my arms, so I finally had to have surgery 2 weeks ago. The nice thing about all this is that now that I'm healing and the hand function is returning, I could drive anything I want, but really like the '07 I have. There is no perfect manufacturer, but I would say the experience I've had with my 4 Dodge/Cummins trucks is far better than a few of my friends that have gone through a few Ford PSD and Chevies in the pastt 8 years, and they are now very happy to be in a Cummins powered Dodge.

Sorry for the long-winded, but hope the insight helped. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Given that i have an 06 with the 5.9 i dont think you can find a better engine than the Cummins. It is the reason i bought the truck. I like the looks of the ford and the int of the Chevy, but you are getting a diesel for a reason so get the one that will get the job done and has the best rep behind it. I had a F250 with the 7.3 in it and it gave me no problems for 70k miles when i sold it. I went with the dodge rather than the ford for my new truck just because of the engine and i have no regrets. I love my truck and the body will prob fall off before i have any engine issues..but that is something that everyone knows about dodge. good luck with your decision..i dont think you will have any regrets with the 6.7L

Glad to hear you're on the mend. That's way more important than any truck issues.

Thank you for your experiences.

I love the looks of my Ford too. In fact it was the best looking one on the side of the road and in the service bays.

I had a feeling, but just too much of a newbie to know who's who here so I try to tread lightly. No worries.

Now only three hours until test drive time...

The smog system will be the big problem with the 6.7. Any engine that is forced to breath in its own waste is going to have problems, and will lead to its early demise. Unless the EGR systems on these new engines can be disabled/shut down/removed, the intakes and internals will get all gummed up long before the usefull life of the engine is used up.

Also, think of the added expense of the ERG and DPF when you have to replace both of these down the road AFTER THE WARRANTY has expired.
If you have a chance to purchase a '07 5.9l ... do so.
If you don't plan on keeping the truck for a long period of time or pur on many hundreds of thousands of miles, then get the 6.7.

I had just wanted an F250 for so long I made an emotional purchase. I'm 47 now and doing things like that make me wonder if I'll ever grow up.

Anyway, got the wife thinking I need a new truck so I have to strike while the iron is hot (you married guys know what I'm talking about).

I'll let you know how it goes.
What Dmax site did you see that on?

no comparison, have friends that own the other two brands. A Cummns will out pull and outlast them. The sad thing is that they agree!!!!!! Go figure.
