factory wheels

I have an 06 3/4. It appears to have chrome clad wheels. As anyone removed the clading so they can paint or powder coat the factory rims? I like the looks of the factory rims but want to paint them black and have the stock chrome center caps.

Thanks in advance for any help.

My truck is a 2009, and the rims are aluminum, so I am not sure if they are the same or not.

This is what I did:

Hope this helps a bit.

That looks GREAT ! What did you use to get the remaining glue off, and what kind of paint did you use? My 07.5 has the same wheels and I would love to do that to them.

I used a wire cup wheel on a drill to get the silicone off, then scuffed the wheels with fairly coarse sandpaper, then red scotchbrite.
I used duplicolor wheel paint - flat black, two coats. It is holding up really well, but I don't drive on too many gravel roads, or go offroading.

Thanks. Really like that look. Mine are pretty dinged up from the previous owner driving on gravel roads. Had no idea what they looked like under that cheezy chrome thing. Now I know. Thanks again.

This is what they look like installed. They are actually flat black, not grey looking, like in the earlier picture.
