DPF Not under emissions warranty

Dealer said that the Dpf is not covered under the 50 state emissions law. Does anyone really Know why, or if this is true. Total BS............. 1800.00 replacement. dealer also said that if the truck is Idled too long it will void the warranty...........

I don't know, but I have heard of guys having the exhaust replaced because of faulty emission controls. Sounded like it was covered by warranty. Sounds like a load of crap. All this necessary stuff on these trucks and they don't want to warranty it, most of us don't want the stuff on there anyway, but they make it impossible to remove it without consequence.

Find a new dealer, but first ask them to put that in writing. Then call the 800 number for sutomer assistance in the owners manual. They usually don't know much, but ask them for the area field rep. to get in touch with you in regards to this issue. Also ask how they plan on proving the truck idled " too much " ? What constitutes as "too much " ? B.S. and a truckload of it to boot.

Hard to believe a dealer would say that. He must know how easy it is to verify
everything he says.

Mine doesn't have a DPF.. but I have always wondered about the idling to much.. Here in Los Angeles all we do is sit on the freeway and Idle every day.. I would like to see where it says that these trucks can't be driven in traffic.. If so they should have never sold them in Los Angeles....

You could also call the Feds and see what they have to say about them not warranting the DPF...

Again get it in writing first...

Sounds like BS to me? What could be more of an emission piece than a huge filter on the exhaust? I'm sure the EPA would like to hear about this one.

I am not worried about the dealer at all ..... But I would like a answer on How many miles the feds say the system has to be warrintied. I was told 8-80 and 5-100,000. Dealer has been great. Good friend of mine. There was talk of Idling hrs causing the dpf to fail......

DPF Not under emissions warranty

I am new to the "diesel thruck engines" and I am learning all I can but I have read the owners manual about idling. The Manual states that if you are going to be idling long in cold weather have the high idle enabled and engage. I have had this done and the truck idles at 1200 RPM with the engine brake on. This is done per Dodges instructions and I quote "Idle engine for three minuets in cold weather before driving". I also believe that the DPF is part of the emission equipment, this is to allow the engine to meet the 2010 EPA requalations for diesel. If this is so then the DPF according to Dodge is warrented to 100,000 miles on the 6.7 Diesel engins. Just my $0.02.

From what I understood when I bought my truck, the DPF is only covered for 5 years or 50K miles. And, my extended warranty doesn't cover the DPF either. But when I look at the manual, the "heavy duty" 6.7 emissions is cover for 5yr/50K, but the California "medium duty" 6.7 is 5yr/100K. Even though I live in AZ, my sticker says California emissions (is that DPF)? Very confusing; maybe a dealer will chime in here to clarify.

As far as idling voiding a warranty; I'd say BS. It might clog a DPF and making your and the dealer's life difficult, but it doesn't void a warranty.

I think the manual says the EGR & other components are warranted for 60k miles. Dealer pointed that out to me after the EGR was cleaned for the 3rd time on my dime. I believe the normal service life of the DPF is 120k miles.

As far as idling time, they can get an estimate by checking the hours running per average mileage driven. I think they have a formula which they match from data thru the scanner.

Yes, and when they do it that way they come up with some screwy readings. I never idle my truck in the morning becuase it stays in a heated garage. And I never leave it running even just to go in and pay for fuel. My point is, my time spent idling in Park is virtually nothing. Yet, every time I go in to the dealer I get a nasty little note on the work order saying my idle/lightload time is 21% which is excessive.

I've argued with the dealer over this and they claim any time your ECM is reflashed it resets this counter to zero. They are also saying that it counts idle time AND light duty operation the same. So if you're driving around town trying to drive gently to get your lousy MPG numbers up (which I do), you're getting penalized for it by the ECM.

If I ever have a DPF or injector problem and they try to not warranty it becuase of excessive idle or light duty time, the fight is going to be on big time!

I agree, i think you should show them all the places in the manual where it states that you need to idle your truck after operation to let the turbo cool down and for the other various reasons.
