Dpf full

I'm getting the warning DPF Full .I have tried driving (60 min) with RPMs over 2000 but no regen.

if its shot I don't mind replacing it as I got 132000 out of this one .
big question is, is it really as simple as just replacing the DPF and Cat or are there resets and programing needed?

If you have no soot out tail pipe you maybe able to save it. You need to pull the codes in the PCM first, if just a P1451 and no soot out tail pipe then stationery REGEN is only needed. PCM may need updating to perform stationery REGEN. If you have other codes then it's a different ball game.

I got it fixed I think.
This is what has happened so far and maybe it will help someone else.

I read the codes and there were several but 2 of them indicated low common rail fuel pressure and low pump pressure . I got to thinking about it and I had a fuel filter on the shelf and changed it out , at some point I must have got some dirty fuel because the sides of the old one where drawn in .
Took it for a drive and still the codes would not reset .
Decided to stop by and pick up a spare filter and the guy at the parts store took his reader out and reset all the codes I have driven about 100 miles so far ( Cleburne to Dallas and back ) so far I have no codes .
The one thing that I did before the reset was drive in a gear that kept the RPMs at or above 2000 for about 45 min this got everything good and hot for a regen .

I may still be out some cash in the future but for now it seems ok . I have to move a large trailer for a friend of mine about 200 miles round trip this weekend . I'll report back after that.

I was going to recommend you check your egr valve for sticking but it looks like you found the cause already.
(air\fuel ratio was off and caused more soot production than the regen cycle could burn off)

Did you see the regen message on the ovhd give you the updates (Dpf 100%, 90%, 80% etc) while it was in regen?

Did you get a P200c (for over temperature) code? If not then the dpf should be fine.

No I got no warning what so ever until the message " DPF full " started flashing in the odometer and a message in the overhead telling me to service soon and see the dealer .Never did get any other message telling me anything about the regen.

Just a quick update .
Pulled a travel trailer about a 100 miles yesterday and no problems at all I think I lucked out . With only a fuel filter and a code reset needed.
Truck ran good with no codes showing .

Dpf full

I have the dpf full, power reduced message. Whats a simple poor mans solution?

xcc_rider Apr 18, 2017 09:38 AM

First thing to do is pull the codes and post them here.
Second is to limit driving it as if there's a mechanical problem causing excessive soot accumulation it will fill to the point that a "poor man's" fix won't work.
Third is post some info on what was happening when you got the message, did you get the multiple message citing the dpf soot level, any work you've done recently, any problems you've had recently, your driving habits, egr system maintenance history, mileage, mods etc.
