Looking to be a new Dodge owner and for my needs, 3horse LQ trailer, 3500 /4500 DRW is the answer. I like the 6.7 but can't find out if it's one of the trucks you have to remove the cab to service the motor.

The 6.7s have more junk than the 5.9s, but you can still almost climb into the engine bay with them. The Fords, particularly the 6.0s, had to have the bodies removed to replace studs, head gaskets, etc.

Yes, you can still service these motors reasonably well. If you get the 6.7 and the 6 speed auto, you will love it. That engine brake and tranny are awesome.

A few more quirks with the 6.7 but once you learn them, it's not that big of a deal. This site is a huge help.

Thanks, this is encouraging news. One of the guys I know with a 6.6L was talking about a $4500 bill for head gaskets and injectors :o Started me on the hunt to figure out what is really affordable. From researching, I would have to go tilt something in the GM world and since the SO is 5 foot nothing and her horses, last thing I want to hear is bellyaching about climbing in/out of the cab.[tapdshut] Im not a huge fan of the other big 3 maker.

Found an 08 3500 6.7L Laramie truck w/ 92000 on it for a mere $22,500. What do you guys think?

Thats a decent deal, with that many miles on her, you can be assured its almost all highway which is what these things were made for. If you pull most of the time and let her get up to operating temperature, you should not have any issues. If your area allows it, removing the dpf (but keep it around) and egr makes a big difference and add the smarty.

I got our truck last summer and just unplugging the egr gave me about 3.5 mpg in town and highway better fuel economy (empty). Towing, it made no difference. These are awesome trucks for towing (I had a 2000 before this and its a night and day difference). EVERYTHING is so much better, there is no wind noise, great ride, good brakes, quiet engine (so the wife and I can now talk [laugh]), decent storage, engine brake and awesome transmission. My only grip are the marginal u-joints they put in these things.

If you're towing horses, get a MaxBrake brake controller, its a truly proportional controller that is magical...

That's what I'm using now. I agree, they're the best. I like switching trailers and NOT having to srew with readjusting things.
