Is there much difference in the ride of the 2500 and 3500 Mega Cabs in 4x4 when unloaded? I heard the primary difference was an additional leaf spring in the back that didn't even make contact until a certain amount of load was put on it. I don't need the 3500, but I would like to have the extra capacity if it doesn't sacrifice the ride. The difference in price doesn't matter, but my wife would be ticked if I get another truck that rides any rougher than necessary.

I have driven the 2500 and was pleased. I plan to drive the 3500, but if it is a big difference, I won't bother. I assume the difference in fuel economy is negligible as long as you have 3.73 gears in both.

 

On smooth roads you won't notice a difference. I'd get the 3500.

 

Your right about the springs. The 3500 has overload springs which only come into play with a certain amount of weight. Get the 3500.

 

The key word here seems to be smooth roads. We don't have too many of those down here in the Great State of Mississippi. Maybe they will be better when I move to Kentucky this summer.

 

Well on rough roads they both ride like crap, so it really won't matter!

In all seriousness, these trucks don't ride good off the showroom floor. They're not supposed to. You can make them ride awesome, but it will cost you.

 

Hold it! let me get this straight. You want to buy a truck that can pull almost 8 tons and you want it to ride like a Chrysler 300 right? Well I think the new 3500 SRW comes close!

Actually, I'd like it to ride more like my brother's Lexus. I'm not a idiot. I know these trucks don't ride smooth. My old lifted F250 would beat the crap out of me on these wonderful Mississippi roads, and I just don't want to shake loose anymore teeth than necessary with this new truck.

 

Glad to see all the "thumbs up" for the 3500 SRW. That's exactly what I ordered, too.

Would I be correct in assuming that the 2500 would ride the same as a 3500 if the 3500 didn’t have the 3rd stage leaf springs? What about the front springs, are they rated the same. Has DC published the spring rates for the 2007.5’s?

I put 190K on a 3500 SRW before getting a 2500. I think that the 3500 rode better empty than the 2500. I think the primary springs on the 3500 are "softer" than the single 2500 pack.

The 2500 Mega 4X4 and the 3500 Mega 4X4 ride almost exactly the same. I drove both back to back and could not tell a difference.

Except when I want to tow 14K pounds. Then I would be over on one and under on the other.
