'08 Truck-manual or auto?
I have 6000 miles on my truck now and this 6 speed auto is still awesome. My last truck was a manual and while it was fun to drive sometimes, driving in traffic sucked! I have not missed it......
Try the 68RE, and if you still want to shift manually just push the button, up
or down and feel it shift. You don't even have to "double clutch" to keep
from grinding gears. I love mine, especially, with the exhaust brake.

Well how about this. I work for my brother in law and he got the first 03 that came out in our area. QC SB SRW 3500 HO 6 speed. We put over 140,000 miles on it and it never needed brakes or clutch pulling our 8,600 lb work trailer avrave 1K a week over that time. next he got the same truck in a 05 went just over 96,000 miles no probs with and edge EZ on both trucks the day he got it home ( I know becouse I bought and installed it on both) Then he desided to get a 07 5.9 6spd manual MC DRW 3500 loaded. Less than 25,000 miles on it pulling the same trailer with the EZ I pulled off of the 05 the clutch started to slip bad. So I installed a SBC Con FE and installed a Juice with Attitude and no probs at all for over 70,000 now.
My brother had a 01 EX-cab 3500 DRW 6spd with a Edge EZ drove it for over 158,000 and never had a clutch prob pulling his 16,400lb back how and once a week or better. then got a 07 3500 DRW QC LB 5.9 and a new EZ at less than 28,000 I had to install a SBC Con FE becouse the truck would slip in any thing over 3rd gear and half throttle.
So I guess its just that they dont know how to drive a stick RIGHT. I have had sticks all my life and hated autos but who wants to buy a $40-$50K truck and have to put a $1,200 clutch in it in less than 30K ( P.S. the clutch is only covered to 12,000 miles) these are not just rare cases every trans shop around has said that they have seen 10X more 06 and up come in than all the 03-05 combined.
I have loged over 300K in a 92 cummins and had no clutch probs and over 200K in a 96 with a Con FE and no probs pulling construction equip all the time. I sell SBC clutches and install them but I still went with an auto and they both plan to sell there 6spd manuals and get a new auto. Both have a Juice with Attitude and I can out run them both and pull almost as good some times better. I went across the scales at 29,764lbs and pulled a hill close to home from a dead stop at the bottom at a intersection and got to 55mph at the top and a week later my brother in law did the same thing with the same trailer and back hoe and was only doing 55 mph and Yes HE CAN DRIVE A STICK. You dont loose boost and power in the shifts with a auto. But just so you know you could not give me a old 4spd auto behind a 5.9. The new 6 spd auto is totaly diff from all the others. And I have the auto totaly covered with the extended warrenty for 5 years or 100,000 miles. And they cant say I was rideing the clutch or shifting wrong.
But I know many of you will think I am not telling the truth but thats fine. The battle of auto vs. stick will never end. Most of the time I would go stick but this time I will take the auto.

I had an 01 6 speed and now have an 03 auto. Personally, I like both. Sometimes I miss the stickshift.
I enjoy driving a stick. Way more fun!
But, the auto is just plain faster, by far.
The only thing I don't like is the higher auto tranny temps when going slow(like off roading or backing a trailer, etc.).
I put a valvebody in mine and like the way it shifts. Doing converter next.
The 6 speed auto is much nicer. I like the manual shifting capability. But, my buddy has smoked 2 torque converters with his juice on his 6.7. However, I'm pretty sure stock converters don't like 4wd boosted launches
I think if I was going to be towing heavy all the time, I would stick with manual, but the average guy that just tows a light trailer once in a while, the auto is great.
So my conclusion. I am staying with an auto in my diesel and I want new Dodge Challenger SRT with a 6 speed!

I just got back from the *********** and test drove a mega auto I have always had stick until this 97 and HATE the auotmatic in it.(Just put a brand new tranny in it two days ago) BUT the new six speed auto is nice. So I am on the fence on weather to get a auto or stick. How is reliability so far with the autos. How about with some added power like a juice HOT with something else stacked with it.
They also had a challenger SRT8 sitting there and I was drooling all over it andthe sales guy said want to go roast some tires?? HELL YA I said so we went out and did just that. All I can say is WOW!!! That WILL be the next purchase after the MEGA. It was awsome.
