07 6.7 and head gasket

Buddy of mine (actually he is an owner operator working for me) was having his cooling system pressure up. Turned out to be the head gasket. He did a complete delete about 280,000 miles +-. Well about a month ago at 334,00 he lost the head gasket again. It was building enough pressure to push anti-freeze out the weep hole on the water pump and blowing coolant out the reserve. He got less than 4 months out of the head gasket replacement.

Anyone else have this problem on a high mileage 6.7?

Just curious.

Did he delete the EGR cooler? If not, that is the issue.

deleting the egr cooler will not prevent the HG from popping on the 6.7. its a drive pressure issue. my buddy in east texas has gone thru 2 even with FULL (egr, dpf, cooler) deletes. That is why there are companies that have wastegates. keeps drive psi below that 51-53psi range that the HG's don't like. also suggest studs even with a stock turbo on the 6.7

Not for sure what all came off but when he finished it had no more on there than my old 5.9.

So the problem lies with building to much boost after a full delete has been done. Is that correct?

He was running a Smarty with a ME program.

I know the head gasket kit was $900.00

its not the boost it is a drive pressure (pressure driving the turbo).

Is this a common problem on deleted trucks? How do you avoid this happening?

Thanks

It is common on the 6.7 as they have no factory wastegate.

Look at something like the Glacier diesel Progate kit which will work nicely with a deleted truck.

I say studs first and then a wastegate if it is needed based on drive pressure. I have both and I can say that as my truck sits the wastegate was a waste of money.
