Will disconnecting the battery delete codes?
I kept throwing a low volt code since I assume I had a bad battery. I first found out I had a bad battery when it was at the dealership [yuk] how ever that worked out.......
Anyway I went ahead and dropped about 4 bills on some good batteries. I had no 'juice' in the truck for a good 15-20 mins putting the new ones in. Think my low volt code is gone? Or should I bring it by autozone and get them to run it on the handheld and clear it? Thanks in advance! |
Yes but they might not stay gone! Leave it off about 10min. then try it.After you drive it check it out. I am not up to date on every thing on the 07 up==Good Luck

Well I just want no stored codes in the system. I believe it was causing my overhead mpg display to reset when I restarted the truck sometimes.

Dang took off work early yesterday and I spent $400 on batteries and the overhead display still resets to 15.0 mpg when I starting the truck this morning. I am going to test my old batteries this weekend to see if they are loosing power. When I pulled them out I put them on my little harbor frieght battery tester thing it said they actually had too much charge! I certainly hope one of them drains down.
With my old battery my satelite was resetting as well so that it was only going to channel 184 and 1 until it re-registered. My gauges were also kinda making some noise and not popping up for a few seconds with the old batteries. I hope this is just a simple stored code causing this from having a bad battery. The most annoying part is it never did this until I had it at the dealer getting my ball joints looked at! |
what kind of batteries did you buy?
|
Die Hard Platinum 930cca, size 65 I believe (same as stock). They run $189 with 8 year warranty and 4 year free replacement.

Well the answer is no to my question but Autozone did it for me ;) .
|
Autozone around here doesn't let you use the readers anymore. Something about the mechanic shops suing because the Autozone clecks were helping people clear the codes and trouble shoot their problems. Sucks because now I have to buy one.
|
He said he wasn't supposed to clear it for me but did it anyway...
|
That's cool. Over here it would have been nice to still allow people to rent the tool.
|
I don't know why shops complain about it.... It would be more effective to just buy the thing than bring it to a shop for what I needed done.

On my 03 to erase codes I disconnect batteries and then turn the key on for a couple of minutes and turn it off, connect batteries and the codes are gone.
