Why aftermarket trans temp gauge

Just curious, why do most people recommend an aftermarket (isspro, autometer, etc) trans temp gauge? My '06 2500 has a tranny temp gauge on the console and seems to work well. Does the factory unit have issues? What am I missing?

Guage?? I don't think it does. It has a warning light though. Most guys install a guage to see if they are approaching warm temps. The idiot light turns on at 275 degrees and thats a bit on the hot side.
