I found a 2004 (not the later 1/2 year) HO 3500 4X4 Auto for sale the other day. It was advertised with a bad tranny and has had a little harness fire somewhere in its past. It only has 140,000 miles and is in fantastic shape so I figured I couldn't get hurt for $8,000. New injectors at 125,000 miles.

It gave me three codes that I would think could be related the tranny.

P0748
P1757
P2509

The batteries are originals and we had to jump it to get it going so that could be the last code.

Other codes in the "brain" are P0202, P0201, P2146, and P0483. Aside from the P0483, I think the others are from changing the injectors.

According to the guy I bought it from, He bought it from the original owner who had the harness fire in the engine. He then got everything working. (only the two big plugs up on the firewall are melted, everything else looks fine).

The guy I bought it from drove it for about 8,000 miles. He said he was running down the highway with a trailer and lost overdrive (limp mode, correct?) A few miles further, he said it was just as if he slipped it into neutral.

This doesn't sound like mechanical problems to me (unfortunately, because I am good with mechanical problems).

What do you all think? The codes point to the Governor Pressure Solenoid, which does fail quite often from my reading.

Could some of the connectors in the plugs at the firewall lost connections and caused this?

With the trans issues. Fluid, filter? I'm thinking if it was near trans cooler or lines may have cooked fluid or thermostat or check valve. Also I would double check grounds. Bad grounds and bad batteries can effect a lot of stuff oddly. Also check and make sure the battery cables are the correct size.

I'll try the grounds. The fire wasn't that bad at all, it just slightly melted some plastic. And the truck drove for 8,000 miles after the fire.

I found a service manual online and did some digging. It seems that a lot of tranny wires run through connector C109 and a few through C130.

Where are these connectors? Are they the two on the firewall?
