Well it seems that my 04.5 amm axle is shot i was was wondering if a 450 or a 550 superduty rear would work or if any one else has tried yet btw warranty is out to many miles so im on my own one this one

 

What is wrong with the axle? If it is just the gears I would suggest an aftermarket heavy duty ring and pinion. It will be a lot cheaper to build a very heavy duty axle than buy another axle and install it, especially if you have to take it to a garage.

 

no its the carrier and bearings and i talked to randys and they said the stock replacement is the best you can do at the moment and i think it is not strong enough to hold up they dodge dealer that looked at says he has seen quite a few that gave up completly and the carrier is not servicable

 

I've heard of guys using a rear end off of a F-550 to boost weight carrying capacity and I saw Kelderman's use a sterling axle on their "big red" truck but both of those use 19.5 to 22.5 wheels. ks

 

I wonder how the speed sensor would work on that set up?

 

you could rig something up on the pinion flange... just less teeth and more spacing will compensate for the size/speed difference.. unless they have a tonewheel in the dana 135[?] in the ford f550 rear axle?

 

A Dana 70 or 80 from another HD Truck at the salvage yard. Just make sure it's full width and the gearing you want.
