what oils, what filters,how long

i dont want to start a debate or anything,I just want to know what guys are using for oil and filters and how long they go before changing it.

I have been using the napa (wicks) filter 7620ex 20 micron fiter and the rotella oil 15-40 wt oil and been going 8,000 miles

I was going 6000 miles and the oil still looked new, now its black at 8000,should i go to 7000 or ????

anyone do the oil analise with these products? am I with in range of my oil still having good viscosity???

any remarksare appreciated.

I have an 04. One of the easiest engines on oil. I use Amsoil AME 15w-40 and Amsoil filter. I go 1yr/25,000 miles with no bypass. I hit the 1yr/25,000 miles right at the same time for the most part. Oil analysis backs up my method.

Wow, that's encouraging to hear! How many miles do you have on your truck now?

I've been adhering to the 7,500 mile "Schedule B" in my owner's manual and have wanted to go to the 15,000 mile "Schedule A" but just can't bring myself to do it yet. I've had several Blackstone oil analysis that all looked very good at 7,500. I called Blackstone and consulted with them about going to 15,000 and they said that based on my results, going to 15,000 mile oil change intervals should be fine. I just can't bring myself to try it though.

I currently have 144,500 miles. Have been running Amsoil since 54,000 miles. Oil changes were at 77,000, 101,400, and 130,000. The first time I used Amsoil I used Fleetguard Stratapore filters only and changed them every 7500 miles and added the 1qt make up oil. The second two times I used a Fleetguard first then switched over to the Amsoil filter around 7500 miles to use up the Fleetguards I had on hand. This last time I started right out with the Amsoil filter. At every change I do an analysis and it has come back that the oil is good for continued use. The Fleetguard Stratapore is very close to filtering the wear metals like the Amsoil filter. Where the Amsoil works best is in soot removal for me. I went from 1% soot using the Stratapore to <.1% using the Amsoil filter. Remember, the 03 and 04's do not soot the oil like the 04.5 and newer trucks. I currently have 14,500 miles on this oil and I can still see the hash marks on the dipstick when I chech the oil.

My truck is basically stock. I run the Smarty on the 40hp tune all teh time.

I use valvoline blue and baldwin filters. UOA shows that 7,500 miles is appropriate.

I also add two bottles of Comp Cams break in additive for additional ZDDP.

oil

my truck has 130,000 and some, runs very well, knock on wood, ive tried the delco oil and fram filters and the oil got black real fast, with the rotella oil and the wix 7620 filter i went 6000 miles and the oil looked new,so i figured i should let it go abit more, next time i used the 7620xe wix filter and rotella 15/40 and went 8000 or 8500 something like that, im just wondering how long can i go before the oil isnt any good. i really dont care to do a oil analisis( waste of money imo, but was concidering trying the 7620 filter (wix) and the rotella oil and going 10,000 and then having a oil analisis done to see how everything is going,,i put 1000 to 1500 miles a month so changing the oil alot dont seem feesable, but i do go down a 4 mile dirt road 1500 miles a month,i try to keep my air cleaner changed or at least blown out so the dirt dont go to my motor.if i remember right napa sells the analisis kit for 14.00 and you send it to the address on the bottle, the 14.00 includes the kit and test.it seems that the wix oil filters do pretty good for my truck. i put a f.a.s.s. fuel lift pump notlong ago and i had a fuel filter mount and several nelson fuel filters so i installed it before the pump and it seems to be doing alot better than the little stock filter. it has the butterfly bolt on the bottom and when i grease the truck i unscrew it and let the water out,but i dont think any water evercame out yet.have spare fuel filters so im ok for now on the fuel filters. i would like to get the oil situation straightened out so i know when to change it w/o guessing.thats what i was hoping for was more guys stepping up and saying what oil filter and what oil they use and how long they go inbetween oil changes, i know oil is cheaper than a motor but 50.00 is pricey for a oil change, maybe it would be worth changing the filter at 5000 miles and not the oil and letting the oil go to 10,000 and that way the new filter will help with the contaminates the prior filter didnt get.that is if the oil is good at 10 grand.any comments on that would be great.come on guys give your opinions good or bad.

As for oil I get whatever is on sale at the autoparts store. So Ive gone between Valvoline, Mobil and Castrol. I currently have Castrol 15w-40 in and run it for 8,000 miles but what i do is change my filter at 4,000 miles along with draining a gallon and adding a gallon. As for filters Ive been running baldwin but now I put on a Purolator Pure One cause they were on sale for 8 bucks so I cleaned the shelf out of them. So far so good.
