What is that noise?

Ok i have been noticing a noise lately i think it is somethin with the turbo, it is a noise in addition to the turbo whistle, it is kind of a whine and gets louder with the more rpms and it is not noticable all the time, is this normal or what is it?

When do you notice it? At first startup when cold? all the time? or any specific time or condition?

Depending on load, turbo whine will get louder. Perfectly normal.

Your plumb safe. Just the turbo singing a happy tune. If you got a trailer, hitch her up and find a fairly steep hill. If it doesn't make kind of a metal on metal noise, your ok.

Make sure your turbo pedalstal gasket isn't leaking. Mine starting leaking and I was getting some weird noises from near the turbo. Found the leak by seeing the soot build up under the pedalstal...

Man,

Of course i'm going to be away on business with no way to get you a pic. If you look where the turbo is, right underneath it is, well, a pedalstal. Probably not the right term, but essentially it holds the turbo in place. Between that pedalstal and the turbo is a gasket. Mine was leaking, which was causing some weird turbo noises... hope it helps

Hoffdog, I believe I have the same noise, mine does it more when cold as the turbos starts to spool up it has a whistle to and then a differnt whiring type noise starts in addition to the sound of the turbo as the rpm increase more it goes away and after warmup it is not as noticable.. I have checked every thing but can't find anything wrong. I've wondered if it's the waste gate bypassing?
