What mileage to change out factory oil?

Hello there! My truck was made in late dec 2006. I bought it July 10th.. Everything is perfect! With about 600 miles on the clock I changed out my factory Engine oil after I had towed a little with it on it's maiden voyage and just before my 1200 mile round trip heavy pull. I put Premium Blue CJ in it and have about 2500 miles on it now.. When do you guys change out he factory oil? I was thinking of changing it again with 3,000 on the oil one more time to get all the break in out then go 5,000 intervals from then on? SOund like a good idea??

My local Autozone carries a full stock of the Mobile 1 Delvac 1300 CI4+ ( NOT CJ) so I stocked up ( It was the only non CJ in town) . BOught 9 gallons so that should get me by until Synthetic !!

You're probably fine with what you are going to as you stated. I did pretty much the same for the first couple of changes with my own. just to make sure that all the break in material was gone. You can run 7500 safely- that is oem severe service spec. My last couple of reports showed that I have to change mine a little more often, probably due to the conditions my truck is used and the way I drive...UOA's are a great tool to figure this out.

I did my first change at about 2500 miles, the second at 7500, and now change at 7500 mile intervals.

Thanks everyone!! I am glad I found the CI4+ oil !!! I will send in a UOA on this next change to see if the Premium BLue CJ is as bad as TDR makes it out to be! LOLOL[duhhh]

I've been analyzing oil every 3500, and changing at 7500. All UOA indicate the oil is fine at 7500 for continued use.

I don't mean to sound derogatory, but changing oil at 3k-5k intervals is just plain old school. Even the owners manual states the conservative (B-severe schedule) at 7500miles.

I agree that 5,000 is old school, but are you running the new CJ oil 7500? My owners manual ( 07 5.9) doesn't even mention the CJ, just says Minimum CI4. It also doesn't say to put 75/140 in the diff rather than the 75-90.. sometimes the owners manual doesn't have the engine's best interest in hand... 3,000 is a waste, I agree, but 5,000 is good, especially when I live in extreme dusty conditions, pull lots of weight, and can't get fuel from the same little pump every time...

az (METRO PHX) is considered dusty as well. However, my oil analysis indicates no dust (silica) problems, so I have no issue going 7500!
