What Lube for 6-Speed Transmission??

My truck is approaching the 45,000 mile mark and I thought that, along with switching to Mobil 1 Truck & SUV, I'd change out my differential oil and transmission oil as well.

I'll use Mobil 1 in both the engine and the differential, but what about the transmission? I want something that is good but still readily available without shopping all over the internet to get it.

Recommendations??

Thanks.

Pennzoil Syncromesh. Highly recommended and I believe I paid 6.99 a quart at Auto Zone.

Thanks.

Who else? Is the Pennzoil any good? I've never been a big Pennzoil fan.

you can get the quakerstate version of the oil... or the shell version of the oil... all are the same stuff, but in different colored bottle...

or redline mtl seems to be popular...

or just stick with the dealer factory fill... if you find a good dealer, you can get it for a good price. [i paid $0.15 more per qt over the quakerstate/penzoil stuff and was in stock, the quakerstate was non stock item]

I don't even put Quaker State in my lawnmower so there's no way it's going in my truck. I've seen first hand what the inside of a Quaker State engine looks like. [eyecrazy]

I suppose I should check my manual to see what it calls for and then find something that matches the specs.

Pennzoil/Quaker State Synchromesh meets the DC spec. I'm running it right now. Next change I might try Redline MTL.

The pennzoil/quaker state thing is of the past when formulations were different than todays technology. Any oil you buy now days could be from any region from any country. Even name brand oils use different crude oil from different places.

Anyone know where I can get Redline for a good price?

Fast delivery, good prices

I used myoilshop twice for the MTL and the 75w-90 Gear Lube for front and rear ends.
The MTL will make your tranny shift like warm butter and the Gear Lube eliminates, if you've experienced it, the rear end shutter/noise when starting from a stop and making a left turn. I was using the Amsoil Series 2000 75w-90 in rear/frt ends and developed the noise at 27k miles. Of course the Series 2000 was discontinued and now they sell the Extreme Gear Lube.
I changed the tranny and frt/rear ends/transfer case(Amsoil ATF) oils out first at 7500 miles and then every 15k after...

I assume that the Redline products meet the DC specs?

rossn2 04-20-2005 09:24 PM

ALL Redline products exceed the DC specs!
