what is the best oil and filter setup for towing

i have an 06 ctd with 50,xxx miles on it. i tow almost everyday. i have been running rotella engine oil in it with chrysler filters. i change the oil ever 5,000 miles like the owners manual states. i want to know if there is a better setup to use, which would allow me to run longer before oil changes.

2006 dodge ctd 6 speed manual dually 4x4
jacobs exhaust brake
b and w turn over hitch
line x bed liner

Rotella is great- but get those stinky mopar filters outta there, run Fleetguard Stratapores. Also check out 76 Royal Triton Semi Syn 15W40- great price, awesome specs.

I would go with Fleetguard or Amsoil oil and filters (which are made for AMSOIL by Donaldson).....Heavy duty towing they are rated for 15000 mile intervals if you use their HD 5w30 oil with the EA style Oil and Air filters....

I use the Fleetguard Stratapore filter on the stock oil filter housing. I installed an Amsoil BMK-11 Bypass filter to do a better job of oil filtration. My goal was not really to extend the mileage I got between oil changes, but more to take the harmful stuff out that the stock filtration was not. Many have used bypass filtration to increase the distance between oil changes, most also do oil analysis to keep things in check.

Lots here run Rotella, Amsoil, and the mfr recommended Valvoline oil. I too have a 2006 truck, my manual says to change the filter/oil every 7500 miles when using the Valvoline Premium Blue and that is what my dealership recommends.

I used to use Fleetguard Stratapore filters with Valvoline P.B.
My last oil change I went with Amsoil 5W-40 with a Fleetguard Stratapore filter. For my next oil change in a few weeks I will stick with Amsoil 5W-40 but I will go with the Donaldson Endurance oil filter. Is this a good combination?
I'm also putting Amsoil 75W-110 in the front and rear axles along with Amsoil in the tranny.

Yeah uhh the mopar filter is made fleetgaurd... Its not the stratapore but not a stinky filter by any means!

I run Royal Purple and stratapore and change at 10k as well as changing my FF at the same time. That being said though I dont have to buy my oil but if your want to extend the duration between changes go synthetic. I just wont use Amsoil as the full synthetic is not aproved. Some go longer 15 and 20k with synthetic but I just cant bring my self to go that long if you want to go longer then 10k install a bypass filter system.

You say full synthetic oil is not approved where did you get this information from? I use Amsoil in my engine and I have the dealership install it for me. BTW the SM has even told me its darn good oil to be using!

I use stratapore and Oilguard bypass w/schaeffer 7000 semisyn oil. Check out oilguard.com. They've done measurements and you can safely double the recommended OCI and still have less contamination than if you run the oem OCI without their bypass. If you really rack up the miles, it pays to use syn/bypass/analysis/extended OCI. With the Oilguard, I can easily put 10k on my fullflow without showing significant pressure drop - I tapped the inlet side of the fullflow so I can check DP. The savings in fullflow filters alone pays for my oil analysis and the syn oil will run long enough to more than pay for the bypass and the extra cost of syn oil. I've pencilled it out. And I can tell you, it's easier to sell the truck when you have the test reports to show a buyer. Craig

Mobil-1 M1-403

I ordered some Fleetguard Stratapores, LF16035 from Geno's and one is on my truck.
Last month or January, Autozone had a deal where you by five quarts Castrol Syntec and get a free Mobil-1 filter. Autozone dosn't carry the Cartridge filters that fits my 'Super Beetle'. So I Bought the Syntec oil for the New Beetle, (VW spec 502) and just got the free Mobil-1 Filter (M1-403) for the Ram.
That filter is regulary $11.99, Made in USA too. Awesome deal to me. I loaded up, before motor oil jumps in price.

The autozone sale price on the Syntec is just a few cents lower than the everyday 'china-mart' price. I use Shell Rotella synthetic, 5w-40 in the truck. I wish it met the VW 502 oil spec. Its the same weight, I'd use it in the Beetle.
