Water Pumps

It's time to change my water pump and wanted to know if the after market pumps are as good as the stock pumps?

Where is the best place to pick one up?

I've seen them on e-bay from $29.00 to $299.00. Some say the same pump fits 2nd and 3rd gen's. Whats up with that?

Do yourself a favor and go to Cummins and get the correct pump. Around $140.00 out the door. Finding out how reliable a 29.99 water pump is while towing you 5ver negates any cost savings.

Just my .02

Honestly you have can have just as much luck (good or bad) with the Cummins pump as you can with a aftermarket pump. Some OEM pumps have failed within the 3/36 warranty and others have gone 200K+. Mine lasted 138,000 miles. I have 22,000 miles on my new pump (not remanufactered) from Advance Auto. It is working just fine and I paid $46 out the door.

On my third pump and the one in there now from Cummins. I bought a cheaper version from Rockauto and keep that under the seat in case I have a failure on the road. Figured it was cheap insurance.

i put a napa pump on my 05 at about 75000 miles. it was about $40 and 15 minutes to change. oh , and about $100 in coolant. so far no problems, but after all was said and done, i realized i had 100k coverage on the motor, but at least the dealer kept their hands off of it.

Pep Boys and Auto Zone have water pumps for $50-60 with a lifetime warranty and it's not re-manufactured.

Saame thing I did. Mine went out about 75k. I was told the dealer would charge 100$ deductible because of the miles. Paid about 40$ for one a NAPA with a lifetime guarantee. Took about 20 minutes to install, plus I didn't have to mess around with the dealership. Make sure you get the right kind of coolant.
