Increase cooling

Looked at search, didn't fine anything. Have 2006, looking to lower engine temp when towing 8000lb trailer in central Texas. Has anyone used Red Line water wetter? What about changing Tstat ? What about changing rad cap to few pounds higher? I did talk to Red Line and they said when the temp goes above the t-sat temp ( like when towing) say 205/208* it will try to reduce the temp to the T-stat temp. Ant thoughts?

I live in the far west Texas desert and never really go above 205 to 210. Have you ever flushed the radiator? I always make sure to keep everything clean in between the rad, condensor, and intercooler. I also have a 6sp so not sure if that matters. But these things take a lot to get them to run hot.

Thanks for reply, I have not flushed the rad. I do have a AFE intercooler, SRT hood, all helps. Just wondering if anyone used the Red Line product. I will look into the flush, all clean between rad, intercooler and a/c. Going to try the Red Line, I like their products. How do you have a 6 speed trans. in a 2006? I'm sure that helps keep the temp down.

I've heard people using the redline in gas engines with a little decrease in temp but not much. Let us know how it works!
My 6sp is factory G-56.

When your temps get high, do you hear the roar of the radiator fan engaging? If so, that is good. If not, troubleshoot that.

I would pull the thermostat and replace it with the RAM recommended temperature thermostat. The computers try to keep the temp at a certain point and putting a higher temp tstat in would throw things out of wack.

Again, I would replace the cap with the RAM recommended pressure cap. No need to overpressure your cooling system.

Youp, that is how tstats work. They open/close depending on the temp of the water compared to it's design temperature.

So, flush like Rock recommended, remove and replace thermostat and radiator cap with RAM recommended temps and pressure. Also check the operation of your radiator fan.

Let us know the outcome.
Back to morning brew . . .

Used all dealer parts , cap , therm. Call Red Line, I could use 2 pink color or 1 purple color Water Wetter. Changed today, parts all looked ok. Cap was a 16 psi now 17psi with a 190* therm, old one was same*. 2 bottles of pink. Will see in a few days..

OK, after 50/60 miles, around town and freeway miles. Air temps 87*to 92*, not towing . First let me say I have a real (steel) SRT hood which lowers the engine temp 4* to 194*, operating temp stock 198* with stock hood. With the new 17lb rad, cap and two bottles of the pink Red Line Water Wetter, 190* therm. as before, I now run consistently @ 192* , not towing. Will be checking towing temps in a few weeks. So it does lower temps a little 2* +, I'll take it.
