Water in Fuel...AGAIN and nasty idle
I filled at a different place and changed out the fuel filter.
This tank of fuel is from the newest place. Still had a rough idle and knocking with the water in fuel light on.
Drained off the water, light stayed on.
Drained it again and light went off after I drove it for awhile.
This is the second time now with different fill ups.
Never had this on any other diesel I owned.
Also, pulling the trailers made for my clear coated heat shield to burn and turn brown.
anybody else have this happen? This often?

Can't argue that. Everytime I drive to the USA, the fuel there does give me better mileage [regardless of the time of year] and the truck runs better.
This is a bit perplexing as the fuel to some of the northern states for Flying J is trucked from here. I've seen it many times at the border...several semis rolling thru. They get the fuel right at the refinery north of the city.
Last time one stopped at the border he told me they paid 26 cents US per gallon and then it gets hit with the tax/profit once it crosses. I know the cost has gone up but not a lot.
I doubt the COOP refinery is selling it without a profit either.

Locking fuel cap was the first item I put on my truck before leaving the dealership. Next day was battery blankets, next day after that was nerf and flaps, day after that day was XM radio, heavy duty floor mats and installed CB.

Hey Scotty I had trouble with a locking fuel cap that wasn't venting. This caused water to build up in the system. Removed cap one day and water ran out of cap. Hit it with a triple dose of Howe's for a couple of tanks and went back to the oem cap. Problem solved. Maybe I just got a bad one. Anyone replace the fuel door with the mopar aluminum one? Does it come with a lock?

There is no safe way to treat water to run thru a diesel inj system. If you have water in the tank, drop the tank and clean it. Period. When water gets into the close tolerences of the pump it tends to score it and causes rust to start. The anti icing products will help prevent the moisture from iceing in the lines and hopefully stop at the first filter, but when it fills that up and softens the filter to let it thru is when you have trouble. If filter water trap continually gets water in it, you have a water problem in the tank. Don't try to use additives to live with a problem. You'll regret it in the financial department.
