Wait to start light
I just purchased a low miles 2006 5.9L Ram 2500. The wait to start light does not come on when I turn the key to ON. Do all dodge diesels have a glow plug or is there something wrong with my light or glow plug system.
My wait to start comes on EVERY time I start the truck. If it is hot out and the truck is hot then it still comes on if even for only 3 seconds. But it ALWAYS comes on...Not saying the grid heater is necessarily coming on though.
my dad has an 06 and the past two whole years, i have never seen a wait to start light come on. i just bought an 03 so and its wait to start comes on for at least three seconds even in this 90 weather. maybe they changed something around over those couple years...
The Wait To Start light on my truck always comes on as part of the check where all the dash lights are coming on and going off when the key is turned to On. If it's below 65 degrees F (engine temp where the sensor is - not necessarily the outside temp) then the WTS light will remain on for a period of time - there's an audible 'click' when the grid heaters turn off and the WTS light goes out

Madhat, I believe it began in 06 that the WTS light no longer comes on as a bulb check. Funny thing is that the manual for the 06s wasn't updated fast enough and it still says the bulb does a check but that is untrue.
My 2006 comes on during the initial dash check. Mine was an early 06 (November 2005), maybe they changed after mine? As to WTS, I only wait if it's in the 20's and even then I don't think you need to according to what I recall from the manual.
Mine (light) only comes on when its cold outside, but you can watch the Voltage meter drop, as long as the intake heater is on (no matter what temp....)
I think it stays on for a while, even with the engine running...
