Update on enabling features

I took my truck in to the dealer for the first time for an oil change and complete inspection with topping off the fluids. I asked them about enabling the high idle, daytime running lights, and accessory delay. I also asked them about reprogramming the Totally Intergraded Power Module (TIPM). They did all the above and it cost me $57.12 out the door. Not too bad.

Question

Why should you have to pay for options that should have been offered when you bought the truck?

57 bucks sounds like the only charged you for the oil change.

And that's not a bad price for the oil change, either. Parts alone is about $40.

The $57 was just the oil change. I had a coupon for a $49.95 oil change. I guess the other few dollars before tax was for shop consummables. I think they greased the front end too.

That is a good price for the oil change. The local dealers here want $69.99 for an oil change but don't mention the shop charges for rags/consummables/etc. at $5.99 more.
Another reason I do my own wrenching!

I am not familiar with the accessory delay; what does that do? $57 is pretty good for an OC, although I havent paid for one yet. Everytime I go in for one the dealer ends up booting it around wasting my time and then not charging me (3 times so far). Fortuantely it happens on an off day so my opportunity cost is relatively low!

The accessory dealy feature allows the interior items to remain "powered on" for a preset amount of time (I think the options are 1, 5 and 10 minutes) or until a door is opened. This is only after the engine has been on and then turned off and the key removed. In this circumstance, you can operate the windows, radio, wipers, etc until the time expires or you open a door.

I have never heard this but one of the mechanics said a friend of his stopped to get fuel and when he went to start the engine, it would not start. He was using Tow/Haul mode. The mechanic said this was caused by the program in the TIPM. The combination of the program in the TIPM and use of Tow/Haul caused the engine not to start. He told his friend to disconnect the batteries and let it set for about 20 minutes. When you reconnect the batteries, the TIPM program reboots. Does all of this make sense?

The TSB I showed him was 08-21-06. I wanted the latest program to increase the amps on the stop lights sense I tow so much. I don't know what the new program he put in exactly covers. The service writer said that if I wasn't having problems there wasn't a need to reprogram it. The mechanic told him as long as we had it in there let's update it so we can avoid problems later (good thinking).

This guy's philosophy is precisely why I will not use the dealers. They won't do anything until the mole-hill has turned into a mountain.

Finally, someone who's proactive! And he's probably the guy who's job is in question for offering too much help to the customer...
