Update on dodge injector Warranty fight
Issues like this one point to the value of these forums. No question that the poor service described has created bad PR for Dodge. The owner of the dealership knows this and his helping to achieve the right outcome is helpful. It is is in his self interest. You can't unring a bell, and this one issue is going to cause a number of readers to rethink their next purchase of a Dodge Cummins. Poor service means fewer customers.
The ctd cool-aid can have a bitter taste . I'm curious to see the diesel offerings from nissan.The best diesel I ever owned was a 1990 UD/Nissan class 6 truck,with 210 hp./590 torque.6sp. tranny. I hauled 20k loads all over the country. I sold the truck with 350K miles on it and had only replaced the clutch and done routine maintentaince. The guy that i sold it to ran it up to 720K miles and sold it to another expedited hauler. I don't know what happnd after that. It may still be working.
its my understanding that on the earlier model duramaxs they increased warranty on injectors to 200k........thats what i want to hear from dodge,not that i dont work the truck enough,thats b.s......................bama
What is working the truck hard enough? I don't tow and I only haul a little. I only idle in trafic but I am on the throttle all the time. My shortest drive is 20miles on the interstate but longest so far has only been about 100 miles each way and I make that once a month. I put about 400 miles a week on. What more do I have to do to work it? I alreayd race at every light and on-ramp. I am also running lucas. So how am I getting carbon build up on my injecotors?
I had same problem with injectors. First one went at 17k and second went at @25k or so. On the second injector failure they had the statement about excessive idle time too from STAR. Idle time is considered 0-1000 rpms.
Of course, having 315's on the truck didn't help the rpms either. So, I changed my driving habits and keep rpms up over 1500 at slow speeds. At stop liights I kept the rpms over 1000rpms. Easy with 6spd, with auto just engage the high idle. At hwy speeds I had to drive faster to keep the rpms up. I also ran 8-10oz of Stanadyne in every tank after second failure. It seemed to help, but I hated having to drive 30 miles to get the stuff.
STAR and DODGE want the rpms on these trucks over 2000rpm! That's the best operating range for the Cummins. Which means, sucking fuel all the time. It's a no-win situation.

not saying it's a fact, but my brother told me a couple weeks ago that he was talking to a friend who has a Dmax, & had injector problems & told him also that they would cover them for 200K

My brother has this friend that has a buddy who said....
I drive 3.5 miles to work one way, home for lunch and back, four days a week for a total of 56 miles a week. One day a week, I blow it out to redline a couple of times and sometimes drive it around in second gear, winding it up tight. Sometimes, I go out of town--round trips of less than 150 miles at highway speeds. I have a travel trailer that weighs somewhere over 6000 pounds that will probably get towed once every couple of months (or less since fuel costs so much now). Once a year, I have been towing for a trip of 2000 miles or more round trip--usually in the Southern Rocky Mtns in New Mexico or Colorado.
That's how I use my truck and that's why I bought the truck.
I do not intend to change my lifestyle for Daimler/Chrysler.

If these come up shows the 01-02 with an extended 7yr 200k injector warranty.
Read the G.M.sites on certain year models of D/Max they extended warranty to 200k on injectors and paying on other year model failures on a case by case policy. Thats OLD news.G.M.did that a WHILE back.Over a year easily.Have a friend with a 03 D/Max he got his letter MANY moons ago.
I will throw my $.02 in on this from my experience with dc...... BRK300 where are you located in mn. I live in albertville (by st. cloud) and have had very good luck with morries buffalo dodge! That said I have been told by my diesel tech at morries that the idle times and load percentages can be checked and cleared using their scan tool... I would tell the dealer where you have your truck that if they want to rule out how you drive the truck then reset the meters. Run it like you stole it untill you go back in the next time. Then they will see what it looks like.. Also if you are having probs. with them saying you idle it too much then EVERY TIME you get out or sit at all idle it up using the speedo controlls. It will vastly shorten your idle times! if you would like their number let me know I will give it to you otherwise look them up. Ask for scott he is the service manager and dean is the diesel tech. they are both great guys to work with!!!!
