upcoming trip/high speeds?
ok, ive got another stupid newbie question for y'all. i know this has been asked and answered, and i searched and all...but still didnt find exactly what i was looking for. i'm fixing to go on a trip ~800 miles each way, traveling light. I have the g56 and stock tires. normally i drive around 60 ish, but hit 70 at times. keeping in mind ill be driving ~12 hours, can i run 75 or 80 (2500 RPMS+) all day long? i know this will make the mpg lousy, but, itd save some time. one time i opened it all the way up and seems like it defueled around 85 or 90. so.....80 is really makin her turn. i know its no big deal in short bursts....but is it ok for 12 hours?
thanks, as always, for y'all's help

The first long trip that I took mine on was about 650 mi.,truck had about 1000miles on the clock at that time. I ran 75-85 mph the entire trip,13.1 mpg when I stopped for fuel. Just remember when running those speeds, and turning those rpm, when you do stop, let it idle for a couple minutes to cool down.

The only thing that suffers at 80MPH is your fuel mileage. I agree with the idle for awhile when you get off the interstate for fuel. 3-4 mins should be plenty.

Rpms
That seems like very high RPMs for only 80mph? I run constantly at 75 when I make trips up to main, that's about 2100 rpm's for me. Run at about 600 on the EGT gauge. As long as your not getting your EGT's to high, you can run it. Remember in boats, these motors run very high RPM's all day long. One guy in a off shore boat runs his at like 3,000 all day. Do let it idle and cool after the trip though. I normally let mine idle when I fuel up, then take off like bat outa heck

yea baby let er rip!!!! Do you think these motors in a generator setup see anything but high rpm's. I don't think so. I have 4:10's in my truck and regularly run 75-80 all day long pulling! never a problem with it just let it cool down before you shut it down!!62k and still rollin

No problem. I've run my '05 CTD w/ G65 at 80mph for extended periods several times. First time was when I bought the truck in St. Louis and drove straight back to Southern California. I picked the truck up on a Thursday afternoon and I was home by Saturday morning. I went easy on it Thursday night for the break-in period, then I let 'er rip at 80-85mph for 1100 miles on Friday! Later, I did a 3600 mile trip over a 10 day period, so I did several 500-600 mile days, all at 75-80mph. Your mileage shouldn't suffer too bad. I think I still maintained just over 18mpg on that 10 day trip. You could run these trucks at 90mph all day long if your heart desired. Just set the cruise and have fun!

WhiteB, I put over 6000 miles on one week this fall towing a 48' enclosed at 60 uphill to 80 mph downhill. Only stops were for fuel and I only turned it off to sleep. I've driven 18 hours straight empty 70 avg including stops at up to 105 mph in the middle of the night. These trucks love constant rpms at 3/4 throttle ...keeps them running clean. 205k km so far and I'm lightly bombed! ks
