Truck dies at speed, then is fine
Truck dies at speed, then is fine
Hey guys,
I was just out with the truck about 3 hours ago, I had the cruise on at 60mph for about 15 miles. I slowed for a 45mph zone, when i went back to get on the accelerator nothing happened for 3/4 of an inch of its travel then the truck surged, i let off and then it did the same thing. I thought i was imagining it but the 3rd time my foot went to the floor with no response from the engine and it died at 40mph. I whipped into a parking lot and it would not start for 4 crank cycles. On the 5th it started up and ran like a champ. I have put 40 miles on it since and she has not made a peep.
Any thoughts. Dealer is ordering a Crank sensor, that is all he could come up with over the phone.

When you exhausted all options, and you have no codes, replace the lift pump in the tank, but they'll have to figure it out for themselves because it's under warranty right. When I worked for Dodge, after the customer came back in 3 or4 times with the same problem ,but we couldn't find the answer, we'd replace the lift pump and 85% of the time that was it. They act up, and then are fine for weeks, and then they start the same mess again, their crazy sometimes. Their are so many other electronic sensors that could be going too, but they would usually throw a code to the computer,if a voltage signal is a miss,or out of sync. with another input. The computer can also give you a code that it's going to . What they need to do is put a pressure sensor on the line that reads the lift pump pressure, now that would save a tech alot of guess work. I made a gauge
for cars with a friggen hose 7ft. long that I can run into the window when I test cars. Sometimes I have to run the crap out of the car for a half hour, until the intank pump finally give me crazy readings. If I was you, I'd make sure you have your phone with you, and don't go to far from home for awhile, it's bound to do it again, but maybe not for a couple weeks, electronics are funny that way. I had a Ford van one time that was doing that, no codes or anything, and Ford had me run for a week with a scanner connected, and still nothing popped up for codes. Then an experienced tech from another dealer was their that day my truck was in there, and said to the tech working on my truck, just put a new computer in it trust me. Guess what, that was it, never happened again. You just never know I guess, they just have to keep trying, but they'll get it, just be patient.

Since no codes I would guess a possible fuel filter plugged. Since you are going in for a 30,000 mile service they will replace the fuel filter unless you do it yourself on a shorter mileage interval and don't need it. It's still just a guess.
