Transmission Conversion/Replacement

Anybody every change out their six speed and replace with an auto? Doesn't seem to difficult, maybe a little pricey.

Ive only heard about a auto going to a manual. But, it could be done. The body and chassis are the same. DOnt know what would be required, but I think it could be done, like you said, probably pricey. MY $.02.

On one of the OTHER Dodge sites is a post about doing such with photos, steps etc.Did not seem to bad of a job.He even addressses what shifter to use and so on.He took out a nv5600 and installed I think a full race HTE??? trans. It wasn't on DTR or TDR but one of the other sites. It was a excellant write up and good photos as he went along.Saw it recently just can't remember which one[duhhh]

Prolly need new crossmember, driveshafts, ecm, some wiring, steering column, maybe even a pedal assembly, selling your truck and buying one with an auto seems like a lot less work, and probably less money too.

If you remember the site, please advise. Sounds do-able.

Actually no add.wiring or ecm. or steering column.I'm going to see if I can find the site.

How is there no difference in the wiring, ecm, or column. The shifter for an auto is on the column, so you'd have to at least change that unless you went with a B&M shifter on the floor. And the wiring to the transmission is different for an auto and a manual...unless I'm missing something obvious. The ECM controls the stock trans, so that'll have to be reprogrammed at least, unless you go with a standalone controller which is mucho` dene`ro.

If I remember correctly no reprogram and a wire run to the TPS? He used a aftermarket shifter that fit right in the orignal area and in the console etc.I tried finding the thread and lighning storm hit.I'll try somemore.Middl of the night just looking at other sites and reading articles. The truck was a white 4x4x4 dually and write and photos were excellant. He was doing it in his car port! It looked a lot easier doing the manual to auto then from auto to manual. He was surprized that it shifted good and comminted it needed a minor something done for shift points or???? I need to find the post/threads.

I read a post where someone did the same. I though I read it here on DTR? I think the total cost was around $8000.
