Transfer case goes from 2H to neutral on its own...
[verymad] Has anyone had a 3rd gen go into neutral by itself? Mine just started doing it after about 5 seconds of coasting in gear it will go into neutral. The truck has 3000 miles on it and i just had a south bend clutch installed about 500 miles ago. Is it possible the clutch could be causing this? The shop that installed the clutch did drop the transfer case along with the transmission off of the jack. They said the jack failed. Anyway they replaced the transmission bell housing and part of the transfer case housing. Just wondering if i should start with the dealer or the shop that installed the clutch. Thanks for your thoughts. [verymad]

Im thinking the shop that did the clutch. It worked fine before they dropped it. They should fix it.

Definatly the shop that installed it. I didnt think you could replace the bell housing on the G56?? I just didnt look that close at mine I guess. I bet they got the linkage bent or out of whack some how and the detent is not engaging fully to keep it in gear.

Go under and look under the transfer case. There is a plug towards the front. If that plug was removed and the spring inside not put back, that will happen. It happened to me. I did not know about the spring when I changed the fluid in my transfer case ( I wanted all the fluid out).
Be very careful, you can break the plug when you put it back. Only need slightly over finger tight. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN!! I had to get a new transfer case installed. Matt |
