Trans. trouble

I have a buddy with an 07 megacab 4WD with a 5.9 and auto transmission. Yesterday, he put his truck in reverse and it took a few seconds to fall into gear. He drove home and parked it. Went to leave for work this morning and no reverse at all. Had to push it backwards, put it in drive and runs and shifts fine. Just no reverse. Fluid levels good and no codes. Did a search and didn't see much mention of the same problem. Anyone seen any problems like this? Truck only has 11K miles. This, by the way, is just one of the long list of reasons why I drive a 6spd.

He needs to start the truck in neutral and let it idle for about 30 seconds; that will get fluid in the torque convertor. Then he can get on the road and leave you far behind as you're trying to figure out which gear to choose.

Just kidding on that last part.

He still shouldn't have to let the truck run for 30 seconds and start in nuetral just to make it work, especially in warm Texas. Something ain't right....

agreed, that's not right. Maybe if it sits for a week without being moved it will be a bit sluggish for about 3-5 seconds, but it definitely should not take anywhere CLOSE to 30 seconds to go into reverse. It's not even a function of cold so much as it is a function of getting the torque converter full of fluid. These trannys don't pump in Park. I wouldn't own a truck if you had to put it in neutral for 30 seconds every morning to go to work.

Take it to the dealer and have them fix it. It sounds like a faulty drain back valve in the tranny some where.
