Trans fluid/filter change
 

Im getting everything together for this, but I have a few things I want to get straight before I get it all apart.

I did some searching, but I want to be sure I have it all right....

1) The pan gasket IS reuseable...right?
2) The torque specs for the pan bolts....13 ft/lbs????
3) Is there a torque spec for the bolts that hold on the filter?

Anything else I should know? I know its a straight forward job but I just want to be sure.

1. Position a new transmission oil filter (2) onto the
valve body.
2. Install the screws to hold the filter to the valve
body. Tighten the screws to 4 N·m (35 in.lbs.).

3. Clean the gasket surfaces of the transmission oil
pan (3) and transmission pan rail.
NOTE: The transmission pan oil gasket (2) is reusable.
Inspect the sealing surfaces of the gasket. If
the sealing ribs on both surfaces appear to be in
good condition, clean the gasket of any foreign
material and reinstall.
4. Position the oil pan gasket (2) onto the oil pan (3).
5. Position the oil pan and gasket onto the transmission
and install several bolts to hold the pan and
gasket to the transmission.
6. Install the remainder of the oil pan bolts. Tighten
the bolts to 13.6 N·m (125 in.lbs.).
7. Lower vehicle and fill transmission. (Refer to 21 -
TRANSMISSION/AUTOMATIC/FLUID - STANDARD PROCEDURE)
TRANSMISSION FILL
To avoid overfilling transmission after a fluid change or overhaul, perform the following procedure:
1. Remove dipstick and insert clean funnel in transmission fill tube.
2. Add following initial quantity of MoparT ATF +4 to transmission:
a. If only fluid and filter were changed, add 3 pints (1-1/2 quarts) of ATF +4 to transmission.

what would be the cost of this job at a dealer

$110-$130

Thanks for the info...Now I have one more question though.

I was told that when you only drop the pan and change the filter, you lose approx 6 qts of fluid...which is what I bought....the above post says only 1-1/2 qts need to be added. Did I get bogus info?

The dealer wanted $145

A pan drop and filter change will require 6 quarts minimum. If you leave the pan off and allow the fluid to drip into a pan for a few hours, you may need another quart to top it off. The 1 1/2 quarts is a typo. When the dealerships perform this service, you get 6 quarts.

IDK why the service manual says 1.5.

Yeah I put in 6 when I did mine almost 2 years ago. I also put in a drain plug for my future changes coming this summer. The filter was not difficult, and the band adjustment was in inch pounds I believe. Good luck and take your time to avoid the mess of dropping the pan.

6 quarts works for me. The pan gasket is reusable. The filter bolt torque specs are 35 inch/pounds(torx bit) and the pan bolts are 125 inch/pounds.
